Colorado Hospitals near big mountains?

Hey so I'm a college student from the east coast, and next winter/spring I'm hoping to head out to colorado and get a job/internship at a big hospital near some good skiing. The hope is that I'll be able to split my time between skiing and working, and spend no time sleeping. Sounds fun.

My question is that -- never having been to Colorado before -- are there any good / large hospitals near Keystone/Breck/Buttermilk/etc? I've never skiied any great parks before (the mountains I ski at most out here can't build jumps worth shit), so I was hoping to be near one or two, if possible. I've heard of Denver general, but I have no idea how close that is to good mountains / if there are other hospitals closer.

Can anyone from/who knows that area help me out? I'd really appreciate it!


Oh and yes, I did use the searchbar, to no results. Not all NS noobs like pissing people off.

I know there is one near breck//key and one near Aspen, called Aspen Valley Hospital, maybe..correct me if im wrong

there is one in frisco colorado, which is in summit county colorado. i'm almost positive it's a pretty good size hospital. i think vail has nice hospital too. i'm not sure about aspen. if you aren't set on colorado, i'm sure SLC or PC have some hospitals that would work.

A big branch of them in Colorado are named St Anthony's, theres central (in denver), and then ones all around the state.  One being in Summit County.  It is only a few years old and is really nice.  Not too big though.  I'd also look into Vail, they have a pretty big one

Summit Medical is right in between Breck, Copper, Keystone, and Abasin.  It was just built a couple years ago and it's really nice.  My dad works there on occasion.  This is where all of the serious ski injuries in Summit and Eagle Counties go to. 

p.s. stop saying "Denver General" because there is no such hospital.

you kind of need to say what the fuck you're looking for, define "large" hospital and what you plan on doing there. does it need to be a level 1 trauma center, lvl 2, lvl 3 or 4?

I did google it, but after doing some research, I realized I had no idea which ones would be the closest to multiple good mountains. Since I'm assuming plenty of NSers are from the Colorado area, I thought this would be a quicker way to get my questions answered by people who actually know what they're talking about.

Thanks for the help guys -- I'll look into all the ones you mentioned. +K for helping for sure!

And since someone asked, I'm looking to do orthopedics. I'm premed and at this point am thinking I want to be an orthopedic surgeon, so anywhere with a good orthopedics program would be best (not that I expect you guys to know that kind of stuff off the top of your head, and it is just as hard to get a feel for an entire hospital department by their website, etc)

It lists every hospital in Colorado, with links to their websites and what city they're in. I just hope you know that from my research, most hospitals right near resorts are anywhere from 20-40 beds. Your most realistic shot would be to go somewhere in Denver or Colorado Springs. Good luck!

Denver General aka. the guns and knives club, is now known as Denver Health and is a major level 1 trauma center and about 60-75 minutes from the Summit County ski areas.

My dad is a doc at Rose Medical Center in Denver and lives in Silverthorne.  His commute is always opposite of ski traffic and he'll make it to his office in about 75 minutes.  He still books 60+ days of skiing a year.

When you say "big hospitals" it could all depend on what you want to work with.  St. Anthony's Summit Medical Center in Frisco is big, but doesn't really get the fun infections or big trauma.  Those are all sent down to Denver Health, Swedish, St.Lukes, St. Anthony's in Denver, etc.  Vail and Summit get big ski injuries until the patient gets to critical to be handled in the mountains.

dont go near the one in frisco. i knocked out my two front teeth skating at woodward and the woman at the hospital stuck one of them back in incorrectly, and upon realizing this, instead of taking it out and getting her shit together she just decided to twist it while in my gum

Just FYI for orthopedics.... I don't think you'll have luck with that anywhere in Vail or Breck. As stupid as that sounds there aren't many legit surgeons or doctors in general in Summit or Eagle County because it's not a secured year-round job. I always have to drive to Golden to see my orthopedic doctor and Denver to see my regular doctor. It's slim pickings in the high country.

never been to CO, but i know the university of colorado has a hospital in denver.  not sure how close that is to any ski areas

one of the largest hospitals in the rockies is in glenwood springs.  glenwood is a pretty chill place, one of the bigger towns up in the mtn.'s lots of shit to do....

sunlight mtn. = 15 min cheap season pass

aspen mtn.'s =40 min expensive but worth it.

so upon seeing the subject of this thread I was expecting you to be planning on trying some new tricks that you could get hurt doing, hence the need of a good hospital near by.

i don't know how dead set you are on CO, but slc has a few big healthcare institutions with some very reputed orthopedics programs. if you're interested, check out intermountain healthcare or university healthcare.
