I'm not sure $600 software is exactly what this guy is looking for. OP, try the GIMP.

it's actually pretty illegal unless you're talking about a trial version.

thats completely irrelevant to what he asked... he did not say free and legal, he said free.

Come on man, you shouldn't be directly advocating software piracy. This guy's clearly an absolute beginner, free software like GIMP will be fine for his purposes.

i dont really feel like getting into it, but its nowhere near as big of a deal as it seems, anyways. im not saying "go pirate software" i am merely stating that it is an option, and that if he wishes to go in that direction its not as difficult as it might seem

To be honest I don't feel like having an argument on the internet either. I think I've made my point anyway. OP, if you want to try out some Adobe software like Photoshop or Illustrator, you can get trial versions at adobe.com.

Do you know who puts torrents out? Companies like Adobe. It is actually a really smart business plan. Say some highschool kid loves filming and editing. He downloads a torrent of Premiere CS5 and uses it throughout highschool. Now he loves this program and probably wont ever switch. If he happens to go to film school or become a professional, he is going to need to be as legitimate as possible. When he needs to make the investment into a software that isnt torrented, guess what he will buy?

this. not to mention, have you ever actually looked into piracy cases? most of them are people who are distributing pirated software, not the consumers. i cant remember the actual numbers, but some ridiculous percent of people who have pirated copies of software have actually registered their software. piracy isnt nearly as big of a deal as most people think

ding ding. they dont expect joe blow to spend the $$ on a program like CS. these companies make most of their money off corporate licenses, where a whole departments cost would be like $1500 X however many computers. torrenting software like this is fine unless your going to start producing work to sell.
