Unless you're skiing big mountains Seth-style I think you're fine with your skis being your height +/- 5 cm. More than that and you're lugging around useless weight. Less than that and you're a snowblader...

Most people who are advocates of longer skis also have small penises. They like to think that a longer ski compensates for the small apendages. Those of us who are down with 'appropriately' sized gear obviously have no such problem. Who do you trust?

yeh i was on 169 1080's for the longest time cuz i thought i was gonna grow, but i'm almost 17 now and still 5 foot 3 so i think i'm gonna get my fujative in the 159. no need to swing around the extra weight. i'm sure they'll be stable enough on landing.

^ why don't you 'challenge' yourself and get short skis and go fast with them? It's harder because they're less stable, and you can say how much cooler you are because you're going faster but you have the wrong gear for the job. After all, doing things on equipment that is inappropriate for the job is the cool way to go...

Am I catching on to this trend yet or what?

Ski length doesn't matter as long as you can handle them where you're skiing... I a pair of 195 XXX's and I also have a pair of 178 LBF's, big size difference, but I'm using them for different things.

why go for a less smooth, slower, and unstable ride? longer skis absorb more so they are smoother and generally hold edges better. go faster. more stable. better

Technically, nothing is too long as long as you are proficient on them. Big mtn pros ski 195's that are stiff as hell and have a lot of surface area. Skis that are as tall as you is just a general rule of thumb. Seth Morrison doesnt measure his 'coolness' by the length of his skis, they are long for a reason. In the park they ensure an easier landing, but take away from spinning.

Big mtn riders decide length based on ability and function. Park riders do this to a lesser extent. A small number of park riders pick length for bragging rights, and this is a vocal group, so you dont always get a balanced explanation. I believe that skis that are about the same height as you work very well for big mtn and park riding. If I was strictly a big mtn rider I'd go longer, vice versa if I was strictly a park rider.

my skis are the same height as me i just checked, 179 Fujatives, sometimes i wish they were a bit longer but its all good.... longer skis are sick, there solid, takes more force to throw them around so people that do it with style are more respected in my opinion, like a nice cork 5 on some 161 1080's has nothing on a nice cork 5 on some seth pistols.......

Some people over estimate how big your skis should be. They may say you get more respect with the bigger ski, but its not worth it at all if you can't handle it. About your height seems right.

i'm 5'4' riding a 174 and 176 and its fine. could handle a little longer if i wanted but i think i'm at a perfect size for myself.

wilson is wilson...he was telling lev he wants a 187 chronic. wilson isn't that big of a guy but he could handle that shit
