the sad truth is this probably does still happen a lot. russia is the number one worst place for a woman to travel alone because of violence and human trafficking.
also. i watched a documentary on china, about the laws for children and human trafficking. what happens quite often, is that children are born illegally, or if women are caught pregnant they are forced to have abortions. and a lot of children are kidnapped and sold to families who cannot have kids, or have females and want to have a male to carry on their last name. girls are hard to sell and go for less, but a lot of people try to sell them anyways. boys can be kidnapped from anywhere and are sold all over the place. and the doc follows this one family who's son was stolen, who was born in a stable because they didn't have the money to pay the fines to have the child in the first place. anyways., it's really fucked up. basically you have to pay to have a kid ,and you have to pay even more to have a second kid and if you dont pay it you are forced to have an abortion. and the fees are more than the average person can pay, its usually like three times more than their rent or average monthly salary or something.
