i just bought some used spks solely for water ramps but i realized i really like how they fit my foot. i dont have cash to buy cheap boots. will water ramps make them unusable?
every boot i had water ramping, only the liner got dammaged. The shell was the same as when i skied with them. Although I do have diffrent boots for ramping, it doesent do too much. I would recomend buying new liners if you are going to use your good boots.
salomon is really gay adn every time i've messaged them about getting new liners, they just tell me to buy a new boot. but you can get a proffesoinal boot fitter to fit you, that mihgt cost around 200 or so though
im pretty sure you can only get expensive liners at ski stores... idk if buying cheap liners that don't already come in your boots ever really happens. see if you can go to a shop and ask if they have any used ones or something. they might hook you up.
Thanks for asking this i always wondered as well
yeah your liners will definitely get fucked. what usually happens to me is that holes/depressed points right where my calf rests in the back of the liner develop. chunks of the foam in the liner just fall out. Other than that your buckles might get a little rusty but the shell's fine as a whole.
also don't forget that water ramping ruins bindings too
Water ramps is really hard on your ski's camber too.
You should definitely try to find some old school boots for under 30$. You won't feel the difference in the air and you won't ruin your other boots. Also, don't forget to get your din high before jumping (I once jumped with some old skis with bindings at 4 instead of 10 because I forgot to crank them up).
The best for water ramp is to have a setup that you won't need be using during the season.
Ya, just go to a thrift store and check out some old ass ski boots. the people who work in those things are usually kinda stupid too, so you can take the liners out of some boots, put a cheap price tag one em, and get yourself a nice ramping setup.
if you cant find new boots just go to a thrift store and find some old as shit boots and just use those liners in your boots when you are water ramping
i went water ramping a couple of times at CoC an it didnt affect my boost at all. But maybe if your going more often its worth getting a pair of shitty second hand ones..
I've been going to water ramps for the past 7 summers and my boots have never gotten damaged... I've used my spk's the last 3 or 4 years I've gone and they've also been fine
Pretty sure he was talking about the boots you had before you got the SPK's but i am also wondering about this pretty sure i'll be doing it a few times this year
remove your liners, but don't replace them. just put your foot into the shells, snap all the buckles down really tight, then snap into your skis. the great thing about it is that it works perfectly and doesn't hurt at all!
after water jumps, i just take out the liners and let them dry. the might smell but i haven't had a problem and my boots are three years old. last and first time i hit a water ramp was last year.
