So heres the deal, I made a post the other day about replacing the headliner in my newly purchased 86 chevy G van. Its in great condition, been garage stored and only has 85000 miles on it. The headliner is sagging badly. I plan to remove the seats from it to make it easy to work in, remove the headliner, install a new cd player and audio system and replace the headliner. I dont know shit about car audio. I dont need a ghetto blaster but I want it to sound real good when I turn it up. What type of audio system should I be looking at if I want something that is affordable and wont drain the battery on the van in 5 minutes but still big pimpin?
look into jl audio, pioneer, and jbl for subwoofers, door speakers either alpine or kenwood imo, better off buying everything new, it sounds alot better and cleaner, i have used shit tho, it still sounds awesome but nothing compares too brand new speakers
Oh and I had JL audio in my old car and kenwood in my new one... lets just say I was spoiled with the JL, way better. (speakers, never had a car with a sub)They make quality shit. Depending on how big the drivers are in the van I'd recommend maybe a 10 inch sub in a small enclosure somewhere in the back, especially if you only have speakers in the front doors, which are probably 5 1/4 since its an older american car.
you think it sounds better without a sub? i think any music sounds better with subs, you can take the bass out of the door speakers which gives you more room for treble n mid, the bass in door speakers is what makes it sound shitty and blows out the speaker, i have 2 12's in my highlander and it makes the music a lot clearer and can be listen too at higher volumes, and the shit just straight bumps
No it def sounds better with a sub. You are totally right about it taking the load off the speakers. I just am too broke to afford a subwoofer so I just upgrade the speakers and call it a day lol
you just gotta look around on craigslist and shit, i got my whole system done for under 200, 2 12 inch pioneers for 50, jenson pro 800watt amp for 50, deck for 50
