Knee brace question

so i had completely torn my ACL, partial tears on my MCL, and meniscus on new years eve. had surgery in late january and have been hitting the rehab hard. i was wondering if i should wear a knee brace for a tlaest the firt half of the upcoming season or not? i hear that once you use one, your stuck with it, any truth to this? whats the best route to take?

i know alot of people who wear them all the time skiing, once you tear you acl/mcl/ect you are more likely to do it again, so why not be safe

i wear my brace every time i ski, its just good for your knee to be protected after such a gnarly injury seeing as you don't want it to happen again

yeah, some therapist say that its best to not use a brace, but in my opinion, thats completely ignorant (of the type of activity you'll be doing). with aggressive skiing, anyone would be better off to have a braces. they are just expensive, so people dont. why do you think EVERY lineman in the NFL uses um all the time? they help your confidence a ton, and have saved me plenty of times. if i forget it, i can still ski fine, but there have been so many situations where id have been fucked without it. get it, and if your doc and insurance is cool, you might be able to get two out of the deal, for preventative causes. i did.

I used a shitty ossur spirit lateral unloader brace last season and it was not pleasant. it was uncomfortable to wear, but not hard at all to put on. What's one more piece of gear anyway? Just make sure you invest in a good one, breg or donjoy are the best. Also, Asterix knee braces are really good for preventive and they protect just about the entire knee from impacts

Also, super pumped for my custom Donjoy Defiant osteoarthritis I'm using for the summer and next winter. Yellow/purple anyone?

completely did my acl and slightly torn mcl last year, never got prescribed a brace/doc said i'd become dependent on it, and i didnt want to be. so i just kept up with rehab and my knee feels solid.

100% yes you should. I got my knee done last year and wore one all this season

you might be pretty strong in your knee after your surgery as far as normal sports and activities go, but imagine taking a hard fall on your knee and twisting it in a way that you are not prepared for. Skiing is how you tore your knee up in the first place, so you can really work yourself over without one. Why not use the added protection until you know for sure that you are 100 percent ready to not only ski, but take a fall on your knee and be fine

I have heard that it depends on your body type. Braces help people more that have loose joints(i.e. tall lanky people). I was told that I did not need to wear a brace at all and didnt. I took it easy and am feeling real strong now.

ive broken my patella, torn my MCL and chipped cartalidge. also had two surgeries. and trust me, unless you want youe knee to fuck out again and again. wear it. im going to be wearing mine for pretty much the rest of my life. you may hate it but its better than not skiing.

ok yeah, so im thinking im definitely gonna ski with a brace. does insurance usually cover a brace though?

they should, especially if your doctor prescribes it, but really the only way to know is to ask your insurance provider, not ns.

check with your doctor. If he says no its best to let it naturally get stonger so when you don't ski with it your not relying on it
