Europe trip

So me and another NS'er are flying over to Europe in January. We dont't really have any set in stone plans, just a Eurorail pass and some ideas of where we want to go. Wondering if there are any NSer's out there willing to let us couch surf for a night or two or that would want to meet up for some drinks or something. Pretty much half the month is dedicated to some sight seeing and experiences, but the other half is for skiing/snowboarding. I searchbarred and didn't really see anything, but if there is a cult for this kind of thing an invite would be much appreciated. I'm still not certain what to expect, and my friend may only be with me half the time so I could just end up wandering around Europe alone for a couple weeks which I think will be pretty fun anyways.

Anyways, I'm 23 years old and from Seattle, WA. I know I am from the US and a lot of people from the EU are not too happy with us, but I am pretty open minded and would love to meet some cool people (especially skiers or snowboarders) along the way. I know its pretty far out, but I think that opening a line of communication early can make both parties feel more comfortable if we ever meet in person. Also anyone else on NS that want to join for a journey around Europe approximately January 12 - February 10, hit me up and lets make an event out of it. I may have a few friends joining me but they are not sure if they will be able to make it so the more company the merrier!

Don't let people in train stations recommend hotels to you.

Sometimes guide books don't list the area codes before numbers in which case you have to look that up.

Eat about half of what they tell you is a 1 person dose of shrooms.

go to salzburg austria, its pretty sweet, go to munich germany, and go to the hafbrau house on a saturday night, its the shit, i thought paris was overrated, but Normandy is sweet if ur into war memorials, i really enjoyed that.

to the guy who said Tallinn, Estonia.... YES!! by far the nicest, tiniest little city in europe!!

In terms of skiing you are spoilt for choice, obviously the alpes - france or CH...

In terms of people "disliking" americans, i don't think thats true, most of us europeans like americans! Depends on where you go really, prejudice is everywhere in this world, usually for no real reason! You'll be fine!

Chamonix, France for skiing

Had a friend go to Europe this past year around new years. Started in Amsterdam. Said it was fucking sweet. and then went to Chamonix. Also said it was unreal. Stay in Hotel Le Chamonix. Right in town of Chamonix, with epic views of Mount Blanc, and it is fairly inexpensive

I traveled around for awhile and never got harassed or anything. As for places to go you are cheating yourself if you dont make it to Paris. Greatest city in the world.

When I went to Paris, i visited the Louvre, and all the windows are closed and everyone farts so it just lingers.......worst smelling place i ever visited

Uh musee de orsay, the Eiffel tower,notre dame, Like minimum 5 restaurants or cafes per block, street markets with some of the best food you can find in the world at cheap, art every where, the architecture of the city, the parks, the history of the place.

I wasn't saying the whole city smelt, just the Louvre, especially near the Mona Lisa, although I'm glad I put up with the smell, even though she is so small......The rest of the city was amazing, especially up at the one church on the hill, forgot the name....There was a kid juggling soccer for money up there, I took a video on my camera (mind you this was 4 years ago) and this year I'm at a party, show this French Foreign exchange kid the video, and the kid in the video now plays soccer for a professional team in Paris, called Paris Saint-Germain!  I can't wait to go back there, and then literally a one hour drive from Paris and you are in the middle of no where surrounded by huge castles!  Such a dope country

sacre coeur on montmartre.

the whole quartier around that church is awesome. like in a movie. small houses and narrow streets, original restaurants everywhere, although they are kinda expensive

just google imaged that, thats it!  love that area, i stayed in that area for a full date, had a damn good dinner with some kids from Britain, got invited to a hotel party, had just a good ole time (a bit expensive, but worth it, and the cigar shops in that area gave the best exchange rate out of all of France)
