In Vancouver there's this steel recycling place that has all kinds of crazy shit that can be used for making rails. Pretty much anything you can imagine that's made of steel is there. I made a pretty sweet rail out of an old stop sign I bought there, I don't know if many other cities have similar places or not but it's worth looking into.
