Okay so heres the deal, im working a contract this summer until december 24th then getting laid off until late april/may. My plan is to go on unemployment and ski, i figure I pay more than enough taxes so im gonna take some back. Im planning on ski bumming somewhere in interior bc. Ive skied both revelstoke and kickinghorse and both are badass. I dont care what town/mountain im at as long as it has some good backcountry and good snow.
Any opinions on good towns to stay in for cheap? or towns with lots of places to sleep in my car?And what your favourite mountains are?

Having skied around the interior Id say revelstoke would be the best great backcountry access and good all around ski town vibe.

Yeah the only thing im worried about with revy is ive heard its super hard to find a place to stay for a season. I saw a few hostels in town but that could get expensive. Im sure I could find a place to park my car and sleep in that.

Revelstoke and Kicking Horse are awesome but on a deep powder day at Fernie it can be epic, but don't bother if they dont have snow. Red Mountain is also one to consider

thats like it for whitewater though. It's good on a powder day, I don't know the mountain much though, so go try it yourself
Nelson is a fairly nice town. I wouldn't want to live in it.
Red is sick. One of my favourite hills out there. so much terrain. Don't know much about the town though, the hostels sweet. right down town.
Never skied Revym or been in town. So can't say much about it.
Then there's Golden. Its a fun town. lots to travel around. fairly cheap. Kicking Horse is awesome. such good skiing to be had everywhere. Couple hostels to stsy in.
I dont know about living in your car for any of these places.
It gets cold.

Ive done winter camping and have some good thermal gear so im sure sleeping in my car wont be too bad. And ill still want to stay in hostels a little bit so I can shower. Just trying to make this as cheap as possible. Thanks for all the great answers though guys, im gonna go look into red mountain a bit more. My brother lived in the area 2 years ago and loved the area but that was summer.

Powder King is a super fun place with fucking awesome, but it is in the ABSOLUTE middle of nowhere. And Northern BC is not a cool part of Canada. I think a season there would get old real fast man.

I think it's unfair to state that Northern BC is not cool... especially if you are going to consider the Yellowhead as Northern BC. Smithers is supposed to have a pretty sweet scene, and based on all the people I've met from Smithers, I'd say the place has some potential.
I wouldn't be so quick to rule out half of the province.

I think it would definitely be sweet to ride northern BC for at least a little bit. Ill have the time and money to go wherever so I might as well experience as many mountains as I can.

I guess I was a little unfair and making a pretty big generalization. I guess what I mean is that there is not alot of places in Northern BC that would be fun to be a ski bum at. Yeah, while places like Smithers are rad places with rad people, and I have alot of friends from these places, they definitely are not ski towns. If you were to roll into town and tell people you were there to ski bum, they would be completely confused. In southern BC, there are places like Golden, Revy, Rossland, Nelson where there is a definite ski scene, and you are gonna meet alot of likeminded people.

So im about 90% sure im gonna be going with nelson for this winter. Whitewater looks like such a sick resort and a bit cheaper than others. And I know one person there so I got a couch for a week or two haha.
