hey guys i am 5'8" and i am getting the salomon 2012 cause i live in australia they are out. Now i currently have 2009 suspects that are 171 and i love them. hence me choosing the 2012's. i don't know wheather to get 171's or 179's. i will have no trouble handling the 179 for general skiing but i don't wanna loose the light and easy feel of smaller skis in the park. 175ish would be perfect but it isn't an option. what do you guys think?

I think it's all up to you. With strictly your size I'd get the shorter one. Another factor is what size features you will hit. I'm 5-11 and a 174 is comfortable but I hit alot of smaller features bc my mountain is small. If you hit alot of big jumps then get the bigger one but if your limited, get the shorts. I hope you understand what i'm trying to say. Good luck

Definitely the 179s. If you grow any more, the 171s will be to small. The 179s will also give you more stability on jumps and will be better all-mountain

179's hands down. Longer is better IMO.

Im sure you could easily handle both but if your going to be hitting smaller sized features your not going to need a longer ski the 171 will be more agile, but if you plan on hitting some big things every now and then the 179 will perfrom better and add more stability. Its really up to you and your comfort
