Best rapper alive depends on how you mean it.  Can you be the best rapper alive if you released a great album in the 90s but released mediocore shit recently?

Eric B. and Rakim's Paid in Full completely revolutionized rap music.  Basically before that album, all rap music was shouting over beats.  Every single hip hop artist today has adopted in some way Eric B. and Rakim's style of rapping.  Both are still alive, Rakim released The 7th Seal in 2009 which was a so-so album.

For some reason Illmatic is almost unanimously agreed to be the best hip hop album ever.  I can't explain it but everything on that album is just amazing.  Nas has released some pretty lame albums also, we'll see what he does on DR.

I gotta sleep cause of finals tomorrow but MF DOOM, Mos Def, and Del tha... are some of the best rappers (lyrically) who have released stuff in modern times.  Raekwon and Ghostface are up there.

Lil Wayne is one of the best rappers of his generation.

Kanye one of the best producers, behind premo, madlib, dilla,... 808s will be considered one of the greatest albums of all time about ten years from now

Outkast, Biggie, (tupac is such a mediocore rapper), Big L is amazing but hes a punchline rapper, which is the same style as lil wayne,
