Anyone play the Halo Reach beta?

Came out yesterday, you can dl it with a copy of ODST. I've been playing since thursday and think its sick. Way better than halo 2 and 3, it's kinda like halo 1 and shadowrun. Armor abilities are a lot of fun and the pistol rapes. What's everyones ranking for arena? mines 1654 for yesterday.

i was at about 1200 in arena when i last got off


the game is sick tho!! i wish we had more maps but hey, its a beta.  sure is fun tho!!


problem is:   its still halo, and at times you will still be saying, WAIT WHAT???? WTF?!?

haha its pretty aggravating but i think its just getting used to it coming from COD and Battlefield

I don't really understand the ranking thing but I got up to around 1600 something. It is super tight though. Way less run and gun bull shit like Halo 2. The sniper is fucking great and the DMR? is just like the halo CE pistol except slower rate of fire. The pistol you start with is great for cleaning up kills but will usually loose to the assault rifle which feels a lot more powerful.

We should turn this into the suggestions thread.

-I think the grenades are too powerful, if they want it to be more about the guns they need to tone this back.

-The melee is terrible dead on which is ok but I would rather see it a little more powerful.

-I don't understand the need to do an elaborate assassination. It seams like every time I get a chance to do 1 I die instantly, it is better just to melee once and shoot.

-They need to design the levels so that the jet pack can go everywhere, I hate when the game makes an invisible wall where you want to go.

Just a few suggestions, I have only played probably 10 games, but I think it is tight as shit.

i disagree on the nades. i think the best part about halo is that nades, guns, and melee-ing are equalish in importance

the other two things you said were dead on though

I usually use sprint for arena and slayer, sometimes jetpack on swordbase for flag games.

I feel the opposite way, the AR seems really weak and the pistol owns up close.

yeah the AR isnt very powerful, not terrible though. ive mostly been using the jetpack, seems way more advantageous than the other choices to me

ya the jet pack dominates especially on the maps they have released. But in the future I could see a two man combo of invis and the shield fucking people up as people get better at working in teams. The sprint is also very sick when you have a close range weapon, and it is great for getting out of danger. I also really like that they brought back fall damage.

-I think they should make it so the sprint is there 100% of the time for every class, like in COD. You could click in the left stick to spring, they would need to tone it down but I think it would be awesome to have in every class. That might fuck up the game though, but I don't see the sprint getting used that much.

-That would open up the game for another load out maybe like an engineer or medic class. The engineer could set auto turrets and c4 like shit and the medic could bring everyone's shield back to 100% in a certain radius, the cool down would have to be pretty long but that could be interesting. Any ideas for other classes?

-I hope for the huge maps they make it so you can fly a pelican and load up a shit load of people on it.

if they're close I usually fire 4 shots as fast as possible and then wait for the bloom to reset for the headshot. If they're further away you need to pace it more so it's still accurate. I like that they added bloom.

grenades are really strong and at first I didn't like them but once you get the hang of everything they fit in perfectly.

slayer pro is a lot of fun with good people, the DMR is really good. I also love that assists count in arena, I'm averaging 8 assists per game. It's hilarious when I get the best rating with 10-13-5 over someone who went 20-3-8

the nades are more powerful but less are spanwed on the map. bungie did this to limit nade spam. kinda useless seeing as you spawn with 2 of the fuckers.

classes are stupid, jetpack is fun but make it a power up.

heaps of fun, more like halo 1, which is good in a way, but i liked the shield only, not shield then health, that makes it more stereotypical, seeing as when they changed that in halo 2 they were praised for it.

would be awesome to play with some NSers but i live in australia so kinda pointless.

for the normal gametypes (slayer, flag, hill, ect) there's only powerhouse and swordbase. there's 2 new gametypes coming out this friday and the next each with a new map.

invasion comes out this friday and is 6 on 6 spartans vs elites in a big team battle objective game on a huge new map.

generator defense comes out the 14th and is 3 on 3 spartans vs elites where you defend 3 generators from the attacking elites.

I think they need to focus on classes in this Halo otherwise they are just making the same game with different weapons. I would like to see complete load outs. I like how they have it now but it feels really simple, they need to make like a 2 tier system, so you pick jet pack AND something else. I don't quite know what I am talking about yet but I think there is some room to make some cool classes. like the initial technology then another ability, like sprint, or something that pushes guys away from you, like a force punch haha.

So you would have 2 choices
1)
Jet pack
Shield
Invis
Medic?

2)
Sprint
Force punch?
Random Teleport?
Mirage? (creates a couple copies of yourself)
Berserk? Where you loose health faster but do more damage.

I don't know, I mean it would be fun if they just made the game pretty much how it is but I was thinking they would do something way different for this one.

Just tap right bumper for a traditional assassination. I know what you mean though, I have only done 3 or 4 new assassinations because they look sweet as hell, but, especially in SWAT, it's so easy to bail your team mate out. I had one where a guy was assassinating my friend and I ran up and just melee'd him in the back before he could get the assassination. Needless to say, he raged.

have you played shadowrun? It's a lot like what you're saying where there's 16 tech/magic abilities that you can choose from and use. If you've never played it I'd suggest picking it up after the beta ends and play it because it's really similar to halo reach and a lot of fun.

the guy who balanced most of shadowrun actually works for bungie now and is balancing reach. it's safe to say that the games are really similar and they might actually allow you to have more than 1 ability

I like the special abilities that you can choose from, it adds a little more creativity, also the new weapons are a good change. But it is hard to get used to hitting the rb button instead of B button to beat down.

beta is so sick! all my friends are like ohhh it's not like the other halos. it sucks. i like that it's different though. brings something fresh to the franchize. mulitplayer is way fun and it's cool that certain classes are better for certain gametypes. adds a new challenge. i think the campaign will be incredibly sick as well

I've been a huge fan of halo 3, got my 48 in team swat and lone wolves.  So I've been pumped on this for litterally months.  Got home from work, played two games... turned it off.

It's like halo 3 except a giant piece of garbage.  I just bought MWF2 the other day and it is 10x better than this shit.

yeah i agree. although i still really like reach. ive been using stalker a lot lately, and its really fun. and to whoever said its way different than the other halos, i see where youre coming from, but the gameplay is still pretty similar. i hadnt played halo 3 for a while and when i started playing this i was still decent.

i played a bit more with some friends, and im loving it.
CONS: it does take a while to kill someone.
PROS: the action is fun and intense, the jetpacks are AWESOME (i feel like no game has ever made a good system of fighting in the air and they nailed it with this)

i play bumpy jumpys and i really dislike the jetpack because i have to move my thumb all the way to hit "x" and because of this, i cant move my right analog stick while im in the air, so i cant shoot people.

that said, i <3 being invisible more anyway. reach should be a fun game.

No offense but MW2 is so easy to play that noobs love it. Reach is one of the toughest games I've played in a while, only halo 1 and shadowrun are harder. Once you learn how to play it its a blast though, a lot of fun.

the 1 thing I want them to do is increase the kills times for everything. 4 shot pistol/dmr kill and faster AR kills too.

oh and to the dude who said the jetpack should be toggle, i respectfully disagree, i think that would make it tough as shit to use the jetpack like a pimp. but youd think there would be a choice whether you wanted it toggle or not... maybe there is??
