The Feb. FREESKIER seems lacking

mine too, but seeing as it's been like 4 seasons since i actually paid subscription and they only just cut me off, can't be too upset. that and the fact that it tends to be jam-packed cover-to-cover full of absolutely nothing of interest...

print media is dead. there remain 2 ski mags worth reading, both of which are french- WESKI (edited by Julien Regnier and Camille Jacoux) because it tends to have interesting, entertaining articles a little bit out of leftfield, and FLUID which is more or less just a photo journal with top-notch photography, a bit like the Ski Journal but without the nuts pricetag.

Aside from the ethics of being such an early over-poster....this kinda gets to the root of the print vs. new media problem. What kind of content will keep print alive? It seems obvious that it won't be event coverage...web media can cover that instantly. And who really wants to read about JOSS without the edits (which print can't exactly embed).
There's definitely room for in depth, timeless stories that still require the funds that only print has available. And these in depth stories can be supported by more immediate coverage on the mag's website. I'd also say that there's something substantial about glossy photos in print rather than on a website. Kind of like how people still buy vinyl records.

If you get a chance try to check out the Down Days mag. They are all sold out of English versions apparently but its such a sick format and layout. The whole thing is so damn visually stunning. Those guys are killing it.
