i've never had that extensive surgery. i've had knee surgery tho...and have broken my leg too.
they'll give you some sort of strong pain killer... and you prolly will feel the throbbing a bit.
should be similar to when they put it in pain wise..
and healing time? your body heals faster than you think it will.

find a hobby before hand
honestly i think the worst pain after would be being bored...
there's a site that should kick some time...

got rods taken out of my leg. 6 weeks of recovery. not that bad actually. if they're taking it out, then the bone is healed, i presume. you can still longboard and all that shit just no contact sports basically. it doesnt really hurt either. good luck.

Don't remember exact healing time, but getting metal out is sooooo much better than getting it put in. You'll be good to go in not too long.

Since we're on the topic and his question seems to have been answered, this seems like an opportunity to thread jack.
I'm having acl reconstruction repair next Wednesday. They're saying 3 months in a brace+curtches and then 3+ months after until real physical activity begins (soccer, skateboarding). Is that accurate for an normally active 18 year old? All i'm concerned about is surfing in september or august, if possible. I haven't surfed since last september, even if the waves suck I just wanna get out there before winter.

Three months on crutches is a bit excessive. I was walking in two weeks. Not very well, but walking. Three weeks was today, and I can walk pretty good now. I think I'll be walking normally by at most 5 weeks. 6 months is when they say you can get back to cutting sports and stuff. Just don't slack off in physio, because that's what will determine your recovery more or less. The surgery is only half the battle.
