Question for all the East Coast kids...

why do you guys come out to utah/colorado to ride park? i mean you guys got park on the east coast. whats the difference? park is park. i thought you guys would come out here to get a different experience by riding bigger mountains/backcountry...no hate. just wondering why.

If you've skied east coast park you'd understand. Everything is covered in ice, jumps are usually fairly small with the exception of 1 or 2 50 footers depending on the mountain. Tons of rails, but usually not very creative features, not saying that features aren't setup creatively, but it's hard to find some of the features you'd see at a park like Breck, Key, or PC. Most people that go from the east to the west, don't go JUST for park, I know if I went I'd ski everything, granted I'd spend a fairly good amount of time in the park, but I'd be sure to hit up some tree lines and powder too.

Im from the east coast, and I now live in Colorado. Most of the kids I meet on vacation both from the east coast and the midwest are skiing park exclusively while they are here. I wonder the same thing.

Same here.

I don't see why kids come on spring break to Big Sky and just spend their whole time in the park.

I like skiing the park here but only when the rest of the mountain has "shitty" snow or doesn't have very nice coverage.

A lot of kids who ski park don't ski very well outside of the park. I'm in the east and you see it all the time, everywhere the park kids are skiing the same style, not doing pole plants and keeping their hands by their balls with poles pointing directly sideways, looking really steezy......and maybe they can throw down in the park, but it's only one part of skiing. I know I've teased some friends for racing, but I almost wish I had because they can, for the most part, ski better overall. Maybe they just ride park because that's all they know how to enjoy?

that extra snow we have, it doesnt just land in the park though. It also covers these awesome steeps and cliffs that are way cooler to ride then our parks. I grew up in Maine, and didn't have a park at my mountain, so that may be why I don't get it, but our parks compared to yours are like meh. Our mountains compared to east coast and especially midwest mountains are like oh shit! Its a whole diff'rent story

we have flat landings, shitty ride on rails, very small jumps, and retarded, uncreative features. i nearly shit my pants my first run through keystones park this season.  i was all like "holy fucking shit!! is that a fucking wallride!!??? and a fucking dfd??? fucking cock balls fuck!!!"

sounds crazy but i think some skiers like selection when it comes to features. and when i came out to colorado, i wasnt all hyphed about the park i wanted some real legit powder. not something you really get here on east side.

Im from new Hampshire and i spent a week in Utah this February. Occasionally i would find my self in a park, but i never did what i would consider to be spending time in the park. With access to all the awesome natural terrain, going in the park just seemed like a waste of the valuable time i had to spend there. But thats just me. And before i actually got there i thought i would spend way more time in the park than i actually did.

We go out to the west to get sunny warm days in january with corduroy keystone 5 minute laps. we come out west to hit a jump that it bigger than a 40... dumb thread

Im from the East and moved out to SLC for awhile pow days were always rippin lines at snowbird but ridding park out west is so nice. Snow was always good and featuress are always crisp. When you ride east coast parks they are most likely overcrowded and features are just kinda thrown in with a random jump here and there most of the time the feature isn't kept as well. I would ride the Canyons which was sick, great park, never overcrowded, good flow. With every rule theres an exception, you can find some awesome stuff now and again on the East.

skiing is skiing, its what you make of it and if some people get their thrill from the park theres nothing wrong with that. I find myself in the park an awful lot. (east coast skier)  but if we ever have snow im hittin the glades and powder if i can find it. Out west you dont have to worry about finding the snow im sure id be taking advantage of the terrain but if some people wanna shred the park out there thats cool too

I didn't, I went to colorado and for four days skied no park, not even one jump or rail.

But who cares, if you wanna ski park go ski it. I kinda agree, which is why I stayed out but still. Some places over her don't have perfect jump lines like they do out there or other nice park stuff. An okay shaped jump with an icy landing and high winds under overcast light may be all I get.

Not all east coast kids do that.

Im from PA and any chance I get to ski somthing other than park or groomers I take it.  Even when I go up to VT I rarily go into the park. I spend the whole time in glades trying to find some fresh snow even if it hasnt snowed for weeks because at my home mountain there is no tree skiing

thank you. I don't understand why some people just cannot grasp the fact that skiers may enjoy park more than powder or back country or "real" skiing or what have you. When I went to colorado, I skied pretty much everything there, but in the end I found myself just going back to A51, because that's just what I enjoy doing the most. You can say that I'm not a true skier or that I'm missing out, but I'm just doing what I love and having all the fun that I can.

The East does not look that bad, I don't know why so much complaining comes from kids out East. However, the Midwest looks like a bad place to ski. East coasters have mountains with some steeps, a decent amount of vert and better parks than I ride out West (besides my Tahoe and Mammoth trips). If any East Coaster came to my home mountain and rode park, they would be like, "what the fuck?" We have eight feet of snow at one point on the park run and those bitches build a 15 foot jump with no landing. I'm not going to complain though because I love it out here.
