Soldering Irons / Stations

Alrighty, haven't been on this site in a while, but was wondering if anyone on ns had some experience with good soldering irons and or stations...

I'm doing some circuit bending and harder stuff that I won't get into but involves circuit boards.

Don't want to spend a lot of money, but I'll spend enough to get something that doesn't crap out in the next year or two.

Any advice, good brands, good stations, tips, what your favorite is, etc., throw it all out there.

Your picture is of the same model I believe.

Weller is the brand to go with, and this is a great kit to start with.

we got ours from home depot, i think it was like $30, its been fine.

a soldering iron isnt like an oxy/acetalyne torch or anything, all they do is get really hot.

dont get that one. im an ECE major and they have those in our circuits lab. they are horrible. i have a quakko 936 with a bunch of different tips for it and i love it. i found it on ebay for pretty cheap. check out sparkfun.com they have some good stuff

Same ECE lab, same opinion. Get one with changeable tips for sure, beyond that I dont really know much about different irons.

a few multimeters and a 0-30 V dc power supply with a 5 V output on the back. looking for a nicer, triple output if any one knows of anything good.

got a ton of resisters caps transistors microcontrollers and stuff in bins and boxes that i didnt feel like taking a picture of. gets the job done. id love to get a function generator though

Also make sure you take care of your tips. Nothing will ruin your day quite like rusty/crudded up tips, and some good flux also makes all the difference.

It's no use for what you want, but the only stuff I do anymore is automotive related so its way easier to use for that
