i dont think so because i dont think that Americans would go for it. so many are against the war.. its just not likely. didnt bother reading the link though.and yea i know that Americans have no control over it but there woudl be so many people skipping the draft and going to canada and so many protests..

I think it is always possible, but it won't happen for this war because so many people oppose it. If it is a war that is supported, it could happen easily. However in that case, there would be enough volunteers so we wouldn't need one.

yea which is why i said the public has no control. we can however protest the hell out of it. or go to canada. unless it was a war with a point, i woudl never be drafted. world war 2 i would have gone though.

Well I thought there wasnt a possibility until I was talking to my recruiter an he was saying that they might have the draft because the draft # are so low right now.......

the thing to keep in mind is, if the draft is re-established, women wil most likely be drafted as well so it will affect everyone.

Hopefully it will not come back, but the US government has our troops scattered so much there may be no other option.

Um, its the unpopular wars that need drafts, doofuses. If the war was popular, there would be enough volunteers. I'm not saying there is for sure going to be a draft, but the fact that its an unpopular war, other countries are pulling their staff and the US military is showing obvious signs of stress (extended deployments), while at the same time Bush vows to 'stay the course', raises the very real prospect of a draft. Just so you know, drafts are never popular. The governmnet doesn't introduce a draft to raise popularity and protests are expected, so there is this little thing called 'martial law' used in wartime that gives police extraordinary power, especially since the Patriot Act, to track down and punish protesters/draft dodgers. And thanks to all the state-of-the-art border security measures, good luck running to Canada. Or anywhere for that matter. But hey, look on the bright side, casualty numbers look like they'll break 100 this month - you could soon be one of them! Am I ever glad Canada stayed outta this one...

it won't happen. There just isnt the need for it. we have something like 200,000 troops in iraq and more all over. Not to mention the National Gaurd. I could be wrong but I don't think we'll need a draft unless we fight North Korea or something.

given the situation in iraq at the moment, there is a strong possibility that this war (especially if bush is re-elected) will last a lot longer than most of you think it will. the longer the war goes on, the higher the chances for the draft... a few years down the line, who knows?

it's not the lack of volunteers for any ongoing war that is usually the cause for a draft. If you look at the facts you'll see that the draft wasn't started for Vietnam but was ongoing from WW@. The point was to have enough troops who were trained and ready for the outbreak of a war. Even if 100,00 people volunteered now, they wouldn't be deployable for almost a year.
