Has breaking a bone softened the blow of the off season for you?

A month ago, I was trying to show off my abilities and I skied into a tree switch (yeah laugh it up) and as a result was mildly concussed and broke my scapia (shoulder blade). Now during the healing process, I wasn't even remorsed at the fact of the early season melt, or going through the stages of cravings and desperation of what I would imagine a quitting smoker would go through. Has anyone else felt the off season softened by a broken bone?

I broke my scapula and clavical as well but during the first week of february. It sucked because I was out for pretty much the bulk of the season

I broke my femur twice last year, first time in late feb, and I was disappointed at first with how much of the season I'd miss but it wasn't too bad cause I was more focused on recovering and it helped me get more focused about school and shit aha I started doing better cause there was nothing else to do besides doing my work and putting a better effort into it

I guess if you're going to get hurt the optimum time would be the last week of the ski season, which happened to me last year. And then this year i got wrecked the first month (total bummer). Getting banged up in March isn't too bad, i mean, you probably were able to progress a lot through the Jan and Feb months.

Yeah, I was wearing a helmet at the time, so my brain's fine, but I don't remember crashing. I don't know if I progressed too much, it was my 1st year on twins so I was pretty much going bigger on jumps (no spins, just safetys and a brutally failed tail blunt), dialing in my balance and stance on boxes (no rails, not comfortable yet) And unfortunately failing at skiing switch, hahaha!
Obviously, it sucks to break a bone at the beginning of the season, your off season isn't gonna be softened then. Especially after all the storm dreams (like wet dreams but instead a stormy deep pow day in St. Anton).

That's great, wonderful to hear! I broke my right one twice, 1st during skating lessons at age 7, and after hitting a sticky patch of snow and getting hucked in front of a toboggan at age 12 on new year's day. I'm 17 now, and I'm realizing I may have a 5 year curse when it comes to breaking bones haha!

rotator cuff tear, seperated AC joint, sprained SC joint, muscle and soft tissue damage and a backwards (yes, the bone is now backwards) clavicle took me out on december 30th.

I hate skiing and living in the prairies. I'm still a virgin mountain skier.

Nope. dislocated my shoulder tearing my AC and my labrum half way through the season. doc gave me the okay to do SOME physical activity again and have been aggressive skating to fuller potential then ever for about 2 months now. 5'd a 10 stair today (claim)

Hey man you're lucky it's only a 5 year curse. For me it's around every year since I was five(16 now) I've had 12 breaks not including fingers/toes. And 2 torn ligaments + 3 concussions. And I just got a concussion(well not really a concussion, my brain is bleeding and I'm out for 3 months) and it definatly isn't softening the offseason.
All times are Eastern (-5)
