Macbook Question

I have the new gen 17in macbook pro and the fan has started to become increasingly louder. Sometimes just from watching an HD video on vimeo. I can understand it when im rendering in HD but its getting pretty damn loud.

My question to you is: Do i ignore it, meaning its just a normal thing with these machines, or do i get it check out?

im no expert, but i had the same problem with my old computer and it eventually went away. when my computer finally broke it was the graphics card which is obviously in no relation to your problem.

so, dont quote me on it, but i think you should be fine. if youre that concerned about it then maybe you should get it looked at, but i think its ignorable.

Take it back to the mac store and set up a mac genius appointment if you live near one.  You get a one year warranty if you didnt buy the extra three year, and it covers everything.  MY trackpad stopped working, they fixed it in maybe fifteen mins for free

In all seriousness though,

The fan on my PC was getting really noisy acouple months ago so I stuck a golf tee in between the fan blades to stop the fan, and my computer still functions normally without the fan (I leave my computer on at all times also)  so I would guess that a macbook which you frequently do not have turned on will not be affected if you disable the fan.

but that's my point, it hasn't happened and I don't foresee happening in the near future so why not?

My computer has literally not been turned off for about five or six months now so, if it hasn't overheated yet, I don't predict it ever will

my macbook fan is loud as shit. i just ignore it. it still works fine. just dont worry about it.

See, it doesn't make sense because my comment that you quoted was in no way PC biased.  I was simply giving an objective account of how i fixed my noisy fan problem.

Just so you know, higher end graphics cards have a fan on them which may be what you heard. Meaning it would be completely related to your graphics card dying.

I have the same thing but my fan only gets loud and heats up when it's on my lap because the fan is being blocked by clothes or whatever. When it's on a table then it's fine because the fan isn't blocked by anything.

As the comp heats up from doing things like watching movies, the fan speeds up to cool the computer faster.  The aluminum shell macbooks get hot as hell after a while, and the fan has to speed up to stop inside components from getting destroyed.  My guess is that you are just hearing it spin faster and there is no real problem.  Mine does the same exact thing.  If you really can't stand the noise, download SMC fan control.  It lets you slow down/speed up the fan to your preferences.

ah thats probably true but i dont think it was with the specific card i had. because when my graphics card did fail and i asked them if it could have been related to the noise they shut it down. but youre probably right about others

macbooks get rediculously hot. my friend has last years macbook pro and he has had it heat up to 200 degrees more than once.

what i would do: reset the smc (google it, very easy). then if that doesnt work take it to a mac store. i've had only good experiences with apple

if you're really sketched out by the fan, just take it to your local apple shop and have them take a look at it (scheduling a checkup is free unless there's something seriously wrong with it).
