A Statement from Matt and Trey

In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it.

on one hand, yes, its fucking retarded that anyone could get so pissed about things like that being on a tv show.

that said, south park needs a new joke. yes, we get it, youre fucking controversial. sort of funny for the first 800 times but it doesnt take any skill whatsoever- i could write a controversial tv show with a few cheap laughs and pop culture references in about 5 minutes and im not getting paid up the ass by comedy central

Lol.  Maybe you just don't get it then. Every episode or nearly has some sort of real issue molded into the plot. sometimes it's current event, sometimes just something they decide to bring up. Not every episode is a slam dunk, but overall they're killing it. And saying you could write a tv somewhat even close to south park??? lol, no way

ugggh if one more person says that im gonna punch them in the head ("you must not understand it then"). with all due respect, you'd have to be half retarded to not "get" what theyre doing, thats exactly my point. it used to be subtle and well done, now its just a formula: take well known concept/thing/idea, make an overt analogy for it, add pop culture references, over the top stuff, and controversial shit, send it to comedy central.

dont get me wrong im a big fan of the show, but the new episodes are just bad caricatures of what it used to be (/typical snobby "it used to be so much better" bullshit)

Muslims are stupid, Jesus is also one of they're prophets and look how they portray him in south park. I know muhammed is never supposed to be pictured or anything, but I think the same goes that Jesus isn't supposed to get laid or shoot silenced pistols. I think Muslims just hate the west too much.

i realize thsi whole situation is stupid and i am in no way a fan of radicalism or religion for that matter. but you have to understand other people, showing muhammad is an extreme insult to muslims aorudn the world, once again not justifying the muslims reaction.

they made more fun of buddha, jesus and the other religious figures than Muhammad. Jesus looked at porn and buddha did lines of coke. muslims need to realize that if they dont like it dont watch it. How many times has south park made fun of Jews and Christians and they get all worked up over it, never a time that was legitimate.

I totally disagree. I think you have to be pretty intelligent to get what they're poking fun at. It's like the Colbert Report on steroids.

A lot of the issues may seem trivial on the outside, but if you look at the context of the episodes, most of them are in regards to something in current events or past events like someone mentioned in this thread.

Sure, there are some episodes that are really dumb, but a majority of them are really well thought out satire.
