You know that Gary Fisher's are essentially rebadged/painted Treks with a higher price tag, right? I own a Gary Fisher and before that I had a Trek that was exactly the same.

I like my Trek... a lot. But then I forked over a decent amount for it. It's a sub 24lb full susp fully carbon fiber XC bike though.

Been stoked on riding for the past month.

The riding season has been unreal so far in Central Vermont this spring. Trails are super dry and in better condition than most of last summer.

I ride mainly aggressive XC/All-Mtn. Climbs followed by rolling descents. Few small stunts here and there, but nothing big. I've got a 2005 Cannondale Jekyll, with a new Manitou Minute Super 140mm fork.

how do you like that fork, did u get teh absolute+ damper installed? does it make clicking noise? Hows the small bump/vibration absorption? what do you weigh? I was thinking about buying the minute 29 and just rolling a 26 on it until I can buy a new frame.

Bought the standard one with Absolute damper. I did not get adjustable travel.

I weigh in at 190lbs with my hydration pack and everything. I've been very satisfied with the fork. No clicking noticed. It's pretty plush overall, yet ramps up smoothly. I have not utilized all the travel, yet have never felt it ramp up abruptly either.

For climbing smoother singletrack, the absolute is a nice feature. Works much the same as Propedal in it's middle setting (3 clicks from fully open). Once the fork is fully opened, it does a good job smoothing small bumps.

I don't have a good benchmark to compare it to, as my old fork was a super cheap garbage manitou that came on the bike that I rode until the rebound gave out.

Would I pay full price for it at ~$600, debateable. But I paid $375 for it, and feel it was well worth the money at that price. Pretty satisfied as a whole.

cool thanks for the info, PP has one for $399, I'd like to find it a bit cheaper still. did u get your from a LBS or is there some sweet deal online somewhere?

Where did you get this photo? That trail looks like the SLC Dew Tour last summer.

As for me this will be my first season biking. I plan on buying a road bike and putting on a good chunk of miles every week. Looking to strengthen my knee and get in shape. Still haven't bought a bike though and all these downhill videos are making me change my mind.

I've been stoked on bike season for quite a while... it's the only thing that gets me from the end of ski season to the start of the next winter. (Coincidentally, ski season is the only thing that gets me from the end of bike season to the beginning of the next summer)

Did anybody kick off their season with the Sea Otter Classic? I rode a whole bunch of downhill with some buddies before then, but Sea Slaughter is always the official start of bike season for me. It's also the start of "buy bike parts" season.

try replacing the pivot bearings its like 6$ a bearing and usually shot bearings make a creaking noise.

Looking at buying a Stump jumper comp from 2005. its in good shape with a fox triad rear shock and a manitou black fork. its 700 with avid hydraulic juicy 5 brakes and new kenda tires. good deal? anything i should know about it?

You could probably do better for $700, but that really depends how hard you're willing to look, and how much time and effort you've got. Stumpjumpers are great, and 2005 isn't that obscenely old, but if you're willing to save up a little bit more money, you can get a bike that is newer, will last you longer, and won't be as attention-demanding.

I'm saying that assuming that the owner didn't do much maintenance with regards to rebuilding the fork and shock, or bleed the brakes.

If everything's all ship-shape, however, it's a pretty good deal. Definitely scan the Pinkbike.com buy/sell. (I promise it is much, much easier to use than NS's)

I dont have a pic of my bike, but this is identical to mine minus the seat, mines just the stock one.

I spent a good 4 hours today building jumps, we got a pretty damn good line going now. So stoked for the rest of the season now!

I would be super stoked to get some trail riding in up here in VT, but I don't get cleared for any hard physical activity until the beginning of September b/c of my knee surgery. I guess I will get some fall days in but my summer may suck without my trampoline or mountain biking. I'll make do.

The 6000 series is really good bang for your buck. I had a 6500 from a few years back and I loved it, but some asshole jacked it from my yard last summer. Now I have a Motobecane Fantom Pro 29, which is a dope bike. Hardtail is the only way to go. My dream bike is the Surly instigator. That is a sick bike.

Taking a ride today on one of the more technical horse trails around our local reservoir. I'll try and snap a pick or two of some of the more tricky sections. It's really a cake walk though. They just reopened it to mountain bikes cause they said it was too dangerous. Fuckin Pennsyltucky is such a pussy state I hate it.

There's one section where it's like a 6-8 foot drop off into a creek bed on the side of the trail. Some joey tanked off it like two years ago and broke his neck or something. They closed it after that cause I guess they got all shook up or whatever. Like I said it's rediculous around here.

This is the tiny rock wall that some gaper actually got hurt falling off, it's laughable that this section is what they deem dangerous. Trail comes down behind the sign makes a y, what is the obvious trail in the pic is the pussy way to the left. If you stay straight on the trail you wrap around and ride over the rocks on top between the edge and the little bit of water that pools up on top. Not really even what I would call technical, but I guess biking next to a 5 foot drop to a creek is scary to some folk.

I've actually passed middle aged couple walking beach cruisers on this trail, that's how retaahhhded some people around here are. They asked us the easiest way back to the road and we laughed and told em to go back the way they came. We were about a mile in too haha.

Glad that those trails opened back up to you Josh. Hopefully they remain open.

Had multi-use trails back in Western New York where you had to share the trails with horses. They left steaming piles everywhere and the owners would NEVER pick it up. So aggravating to have your ride in nature disturbed by the scent of horse shit.

Actually I think it might still be closed. There was still a no biking sign up when I rode in yesterday so who knows. I think it's mostly a safety thing as much of the trail is pretty tight and you can come up on somebody really fast back there.

Dude it's dairy country around here, horse shit pales in comparison to the manure they spread in all the fields this time of year down here. It does piss us all off though how they never clean up or even move it to the side of the trail.

One of the better uphills or downhills depending on how you're riding the loop. Still only about 200 yards or so though as we don't have much elevation around here. Just a lot of up and down with rocks and horse shit mixed in.
