One man's thoughts on the JOSS edits thus far

I really want to attempt to start a good discussion about the merits of each edit, but its ns and I should know better but I am going to try

Personally, America is #1 as of now. Part of it is personal preference for high-energy hip-hop edits, but I feel as though their variety is "top notch" compared to others right now. They used each member of the team pretty equally, along with their various jib features and "official" features.
But all that aside there are two things that put them on top. First of the editing is way beyond that of Europe and Down Under. They have all these little shots here and there that logically progress the edit foward (shot of heli, then at backcountry). These shots are both artistic and def. took a long time to put in despite their short durations. Secondly, they're tricks are def. the cleanest,hands down. They stomp all their landings.

Down under's is very good but to the caliber of America's. They relied too much on russ, which of course is noones fault but you can't win with a edit that showcases mostly one skiier. I thought their intro was very artistic and personally, it contains the best shots thus far in the competiton. (I'm sorry but northern lights are dope). They're opening jib was very unique, but didn't really lend itself to impressive tricks, except for the last shot of Jossi. On the other hand, I didn't like that wooden fence jib, not too exciting in my book but props for trying creativity.

Europe's best shots are the heli propane tank thing and the pallets. Pallets were uber creative, but everyone saying that OMG THEY WE'RE so creative with their jibs, look again. With the exception of the propane tank, which wasn't really that impressive, they hit all rails. Nothing so different about their jib section.

Norway: not the most creative intro in the world but whatever. Personally, i still like America's more but thats because of the high-energy hip-hop thing. That said, I can see why the judges put Norway above them. Norway had style for days. Everything was clean and stomped. On top of that they had some really creative jibs. The only thing I saw wrong with it was they barely used the jib garden, but that rodeo off the marshmallow thing made up for it. Also, they didn't really have a theme or anything going on, which hurt their overall impression score, which is why they didn't win probably. Lets see what ns has to offer...

i'll repost this so everything is on one page

OK my sweden review. starts off with a uber sick vibe i wish the whole video had that feel good attitude to it. that mtv awards thing was completely outta place and i didn't like how it then switched to a hip-hop thing all the sudden. then just when you get used to that they go with the epic music for the paraglider shots. its biggest downfall however was it relied too much on urban. but so far i agree with the judges placement of all the videos. I really liked swedens, just not so much the switching themes deal.

p.s. Europe fans, that rail to quarter pipe thing is what real creativity looks like

idk about team ns. at first their theme thing is wtf but then lj explains it was like a dream being at joss so then it made sense. they had by far the best urban shots of the comp. However i didn't think their videography was as good as the other teams, they really didn't have any real amazing angles or editing. plus their jump section was neither a dub cork fest for smooth style fest. it was all like single cork 9's which i wouldn't think would weigh highly in tech or style. If it was up to me I would judge it thus far as

Norway
America
NS
Sweden
Down Under
Europe

America is still my favorite though, but Norway does deserve the top spot

I think all the edits are so dope. Each edit has its own style. NS killed it in the urban segments for sure. I like America's or Sweden's for the skiing and Down Under for the overall editing.

ok... there were 4 bio/cork 9ns 4 double flips 2 smooth 5s...... the rest were bigger single corks.... i just think other movies had both more style and tech going for them

Norway 1 cause of the it was tech, big, good edit overall and maad steeze!
Ns 2 because of the creativity, style and sick jibbing
Sweden 3 bacause they did it their own way.. they do the things they like and do not throw every single dub cause the crowd want it..
America 4 because the whole edit was a fucking feelgood crowd pleaser! bu it was a good overall edit..

The biggest thing I find interesting is that supposedly Canada won because it was a video contest and theirs had more than just skiing, but if that's the deal with judging I don't get how Norway was placed above America.

I also loved the NS edit and America edit, and I thought America was better just for overall cinematography and bigger variety of tricks. But that's just opinion. Norway beating America seems a little contradictory to how Jon played off America taking 4th.

And apologies for the double post, as far as features go, they were ill no doubt, but didn't quite live up to expectations for me.

There was a way bigger hip way back during War and the jib garden was fairly minimal.
JOI jump was sick, step up could have been a little more air time I thought, but that's just me, but hip and jib garden could use a little work.

i preferred team norway...despite the fact no one else seems to...
yh team americas was pretty sick but they needed more vareity, team norway was unreal, REALLY liked the urban wall sesh at night. although there werent so many massive tricks in the bag they all stomped ill tricks.
especially andreas' bonk to flatspin 5 (?)

never thought of that before and this is 100% true, i feel like if that was really the case the whole field would be changed, for instance Down Under probably would have ranked higher because they had alot of cinematography going for them so clearly that was just a bs excuse from jon.

canadia - by far the MOST UNEPIC....... heavy pan mystery of all time

anyways, i can see why they deserved to win, def had the most enjoyable time watching it, it was like a real ski movie. i kinda like judging it that way, though America does have a point for saying they weren't informed about that.... if they made the judging my clear it would have been fine.... but still they can stop their bitching because it wasn't that bad, i was expecting chug life or something, shots were epic, lack of urban, but sick editing.... movie wise they win hands down but skiing wise they had alot of smooth but not so much tech but still, as far as enjoyability goes they win

i dunno really where to rank them because the edit was so different, skiing it would be last, movie wise it goes first either way i think they deserved the spot they got given that they thought so outside the box

my final rankings
1. Norway
2. NS
3. TIE Canada & America
5. TIE Sweden & Down Under
7. Europe

i cant really lean one way or the other on the ties, america had better skiing by far than canada, but didnt like the editing and some of the shots werent on (probably cause of one of the two filmers). canada lacked feature variety. had great filming and spotty editing, with it getting jumpy at parts, but i love TJ and dorey's style, not really a cosco fan tho, dont find him that funny, seems like he would rather make jokes than ski sometimes.

down under just suffered from injuries, had jossi been healthy the whole time they could have possibly competed for top spot, but with him and danger hurt it turned in to the russ show, which is sick but lacks variety. Sweden was good but not great, kanye thing didnt work at all, three songs was a little weird and didnt flow like one or two would have, and i wish there was more jumping, especially after the mammoth stuff in refresh i expected some more from niklas, tho what he did to was sick, oscar was pretty meh, should have kept jacob on sweden instead.
