Road trip to MAINE

Alright so I live in Ohio and me and my sis wanted to go on a roadtrip first week of summer break and we were thinkin Maine...We wouldn't really have a destination, it would be more of a just wherever we feel like going type of deal. But other then eating Lobster, smoking, drinking, and seeing some kickass lighthouses, is there anything else you would recommend? Thanks guys...

Haha I've spent a lot of time at LG, winter and summer, and it's a pretty interesting place. Not my favorite but still fun. I live near a lake at home so I'm used to the atmosphere and I prefer Maine more.

the average high is 79 in july and 77 in august in portland and in atlantic city, the average high is 81 in july and 80 in august. thats only a 2-3 degree difference. up in northern maine, there might be a 10 degree difference, but portland is pretty warm.

oh. i was talking air temps, but ya, you are right. the ocean is colder because cape cod blocks off a lot of the warm water from the gulf stream

The people in this thread who know what they are talking about are awesome. The people who don't, aren't. Peep my sig for some awesome scenery, ropeswings, rich girls on vacation, and huge parties on islands...alllll summer long. Maine is great fun in the summer.

You're peaking my interest in the lakes of maine. Never been to one.....well when it was thawed out at least. Saw eagle lake way up north, and moxie pond up by the forks, and whatever the big one is next to the loaf. I outta look into an out of state fishing license as I'm sure I'll end up in the region again this summer.

Moosehead is next to Moxie pond and the forks. Drive 201 north along the kennebec past the forks to rockwood, then turn south to greenville.

Sick picture, what's the word on camping on those Islands?? I got a twelve foot old town kayak that would love a trip up there. I got a buddy who's trying to get me to go to the forks mid may actually. He wants to kayak the kennebec and penobscot though.... or the dead I'm not sure. All pretty sick rivers and slightly above my kayak level. I don't know if I'll make this trip but I might head back up there this summer.

The camping is legit, free or $5 a night depending on the level of campsite. but a maine gazateer and look for little teepee symbols, every island in the lake has a few. The kennebec and dead are two different types of rivers. the kennebec, depending on flow, can be a slow tricle or crazy fast big (15 ft) waves. Still pretty safe/easy no matter what the flow.The dead is dangerous, again depending on the level, and has alot of suckholes and scary spots I guess.

if you're coming up to maine, go to bar harbor. it has a really dope park and some nice backcountry hiking.


also i worked on the trails there last summer

I'm digging this thread! I'm planning on chode rippin, (road trippin) up to Portland this summer with my bros. Really stoking me up.

On your way there, you should find a way to drive through the adirondacks. Fucking BEAUTIFUL. One of my favorite places in the country, seconded only to the mountains of Oregon

Where do you come through in the ADKs. I live smack in the middle of them. Some great lakes and hiking all over.

From where I live (near Rome) we usually go in this order:

28 North
30 North
3 to Plattsburg, then cross the river via grand isle, to Burlington

albany is considered upstate, but its not even on the same latitude as any part of maine. I think you meant to say northern new york is north of southern maine

ok. half of upstate ny is north of southern maine. people never seem to know where maine is though. everyone thinks its north of new hampshire. its fucking east. i used to live in portland. once i was at loon and we were in the gondola with some people from boston and they said, "thats weird, you travel south to ski." another time i was at gore and i was talking to a kid and he said, "it must be real cold up there". porltand is directly east of gore.

Maine is pretty dull, and i know this because i live here. But the things you might indeed find interesting and okay are the lighthouses, views, LOBSTAH!, MAG (it is in portland, its an arena like thing filled with tramps, GO THERE>), and maybe some scenic rides up the chairlifts at mountains like sunday river and sugar loaf. But i hear the best scenic chairlift right is at Lost Valley :P

I live on the seacoast of NH (20 min from maine)
and this list is legit everything amazing about where we live. you will have the best bridge jumping, beach going, lobster eating, longboarding trip of your life.
plus. yes, there are a shit ton of sick lighthouses. and lighthouses rule, if you dont like the lighthouse you suck.

my threads for when I go back up to maine this summer. I went up there last summer and had a really shitty time. Stuck in a little town called Belfast, only met really sheltered church kids. (nothing against religion but I'm just trying to get a point across) Couldn't find anything to do. Now I've got a nice list of people and places to hit up.

maine noob, you clearly dont know how out moose hunting works, gotta enter and win the moose lottery to be able to hunt em, only a limited amount per year can be killed by gun fire, but if you wanna hit one with your car its open season all year round
