Road trip to MAINE

Alright so I live in Ohio and me and my sis wanted to go on a roadtrip first week of summer break and we were thinkin Maine...We wouldn't really have a destination, it would be more of a just wherever we feel like going type of deal. But other then eating Lobster, smoking, drinking, and seeing some kickass lighthouses, is there anything else you would recommend? Thanks guys...

I went to Acadia when I was 13. It was wicked fun. We camped for a week and drove around to a bunch of different places. Went climbing, sea kayaking, biking, hiking, and general wandering around. The ocean was still too cold to swim but it was mid 80's the first week of June so we lounged on the beach.

if you go to the portland area, you could rent a surfboard, go cliff jumping (at a place called salmon falls), go camping, skate in portland, chill at the pier/ beach in old orchard beach, where there are thousands of people in bathing suits, go rock climbing at the maine rock gym in portland, and maine indoor karting in scarborough has some real fast go karts.

Because if I was going to drive 900+/- miles in the summer, I'd go to OCMD, Jersey shore, Va beach, Bonnaroo, Is Lallapalooza in Chicago still?, NYC, shit anywhere other than Maine.

at jersey shore, ocmd va beach, you chill at the beach. in maine, you can do that minus the guidos and do a lot of other outdoor activities . nyc is fun for a day or two, but southern maine is the shit in the summer.

I live in Maine and even in the summer time its the shit. Here's what you could do.

Surf, Scarborough, or York beach.

Cliff/Bridge Jump Frye's Leap or Solmon Falls.

Go to Old Orchard Beach and scope out mad beezys, eat delicious fries.

Go climbing at Maine Rock Gym.

Go to Yorks Wild Animal Kingdom.

Go to Bug Light Park in South Portland (famous downrail there) and you get breathtaking views of Portland.

Go skate portland or longboard.

There's so much more dude its insane, I love Maine, if you want anything in particular ask and I'll tell you!

But yeah, Maine is sick. Great choice for a road trip. Do everything this guy said except for Wild Animal Kingdom.

Also, seriously, check out Acadia. It's amazing up there. Bar Harbor is fun to explore too.

Acadia nat park man. Place is sick. One of my favorite memories goin there as a kid. Check out thunder hole, such a cool little thing.

Def hit up some lighthouses. Bar harbor is good shit too. A lot of cool places up there.

I think I'm gonna do a little mini road trip around when I got up for nateva the 4th weekend.

I doubt I'll have room but Im going to try to bring my board up with me and catch a few waves. Friends and supplies for multi day festivals take up a lot of space. Maybe I'll throw it on the roof

tell me about it, i live 10 minutes from there. Long Sands has sick surfing and the Goldenrod has sweet candy and stuff to do in York.

It's safe to say I wont be pro. I hadn't been out in a couple year. Hit up the hurricane swell down in myrtle last fall and raped myself a few times. Afterbanged it through the spin cycle

Long Sands has good waves, their surfshop is sick, and Goldenrod candy is the best taffy.

My favorite summer memory was going to longsands surfing to shit, going out to eat at goldenrods, then eating taffy all car ride home.

I dont know why anyone would not pick the Jersey Shore over going to the beach in Maine. 1 you can go into the water because its warm enough. 2. there's pussy everywhere. 3. the parties are good if you know where to go.

When I think of a fun summer day at the beach I don't think sitting in Maine where its going to be 70 degrees outside and 58 degree water.

Bonnaroo/Lolla were just options. I wouldn't go to either for the price they charge, compared to the amount of talent they have at them.

I've been to Maine, and when you think summer you don't think Maine. Also Maine isn't as hot as Jersey.

Portland Maine-The 2007 estimated city population was 62,875.

Camden New Jersey- the city had a total population of 79,904.

Not to mention Philly Metro is 5 Million people and NYC Metro is 19 Million people.

Dude thats kinda the point of this road trip...to go somewhere not EVERYONE will be...Jersey shore...haha...fuck that...I'm looking for a chill ass place with some chill ass things to do and judging by this thread, Maine seems to be a perfect fit.

maine is also known for its summer camps and one of the most popular national parks. Its nickname is Vacationland. I live on the maine/nh border area and i cross over the highway and every friday there is traffic backed up from the tolls 7 miles back to the border

Good choice. Like everyone said, if you're coming definitely hit up Acadia, it's sick. Scope out some lighthouses. At night hit up the old port (if you're 21).  Just remember, the father north you go, the less things there are to do haha. Best to stay in southern Maine.

Southern Maine/ Portland area has awesome beaches, surfing, cliff jumping. Central coast/Penobscot Bay/Acadia is pretty stunning at times, and where Im from Moosehead Lake/ Baxter State Park Area in central/northern Maine is amazing scenery. Good choice for a road trip.

Then why list them. And jersey shore, isn't hard to find a party. Anywhere else in the world still isn't hard to find a party, and a more heady party at that.

Bullshit, if you wanna be a real man go hit up some of maine's mountiains and rivers. Central maine offers Baxter state park, Mt. Khatadin is a wicked cool burner of a morning hike just get there early when the gate opens.

Also check out The Forks maine for some badass whitewater rafting on the kennebec or penobscot rivers. Definite gut check time, and the water won't be bad in the summer.Click for larger image

Hell go to Sugarloaf and cross the street, go get into the bigelows on the AT for a sweet day hike.Click for larger image

All this can be done from southern maine in one day, just get up reaally early.

Bar harbor is cool as well and everyone should see it. Look up blackwoods campground at the south of the park, it's first come first serve so you don't need to reserve a site. Otter cliffs is cool, thunder hole is cool as well. If you are there at the right time FOR SURE hike the precipice trail.

Maine is the shit. i used to have a house up there...one of the coolest places ive ever been to. definitely hit up Belgrade Lakes, Maine. i had a house on a lake out there. its about 30 mins north augusta. really nice area to boat, swim, fish, and hike. what more could you ask for while youre in maine? the coast is real nice too. old orchard beach is sweet. bar harbor is cool to for whale watchin but its a big tourist area

you have no idea what you are talking about. porland is kind of like a mini boston which is a fairly small city, but has a much larger metro. the portland metro has over half a million people. and who in their right mind would vacatioin in camden or filthadelphia, the biggest shit hole on the east coast. portland is part of the northeast corridor, its not in the middle of nowhere, its only 1.5 hours north of boston and it usually has the about same temps as jersey in the summer. also why would you think of a specific state when you think of summer. i dont think of summer and also think of jersey, thats retarded.

That's great and all but in the peak of the summer the water temps in jersey and south are about 10 degrees warmer than maine. I hate jersey but Delaware is nice. I've traveled to maine quite a few times, but I've never been in the ocean there.
