Ski Rack Fucked up my Skis

So I just had received my BRAND NEW Surface One Life skis and I went down to Ski Rack in Burlington to get them mounted up. After paying 80 bucks for new brakes(old ones were too narrow) and the mount I trusted them with my skis. So I go down there today to pick up my skis, didn't really check em out at the store but assumed they had been mounted correctly. I go up, try to click in and test them out and the heel piece is obnoxiously far away from the toe piece so I obviously aren't able to click in. I try to bring the heel piece forward hoping they would fit that way, but you can only click it up so far before the heel piece slides out. So angrily I bring them back down to the shop and ask them why they did this. They started apologizing and offering a free mount. So obviously I am making them do the re-mount now but the manager is supposed to call me about it soon.

Do you guys think that I should demand new skis? I really want to and I am very disappointed with the shop(I had heard great things before) and the fact that they fucked up my brand new skis.

Also if they won't give me new skis, what do you think I should ask for/do? He's calling me soon so if I can get some ideas ASAP that would be great.

P.S. I know this should prob be in Gear Talk but I figured this would get me quicker responses.

id ask for new skiis cuz i kno extra mounts on a ski can make it more fragile and not hold up as well or something... try it and if he doesnt go for it then just just get them remounted

Just get a new mount for free. Having one more mount on a ski isnt the end of the world. If they fucked up twice or three times I wold ask for new skis.

Just ski the skis, and if they end up breaking or getting damaged by the second mount ask for a new pair or something.

You don't happen to live in Harris Millis do you?  I was in the common room last week and there was someone down there with a brand new pair of One Lifes and they looked dope.  Ski Rack can be legit, but they are not reliable.  You either get great service or mediocre, and you never know when it will be.  I would probably just take the free mount, but hey, if you try to get new skis and you get them, that would be great.  And I didn't quite get what you were talking about that is wrong, did they mount the skis to a larger size boot or something?

be like now water and ice will get in the old holes and freeze up and crack and make the skis more fragile

they're not gonna give you new skis.  re mounting a ski one time will not matter all.

if i were you i would ask for something else free, like store credit or some swag or something.  new skis are too much to ask for.  ask to get you money back from the first mount and get a second mount free.  maybe they could also throw in something extra. 

its not gonna affect the ski at all either its skiability or how it looks its just a bummer that you're so stoked on your new skis and they fuck them up.  i know how you feel

New skis!!!!  If they can't figure out how to mount a pair of skis right then how can you trust them to cap the original holes well enough to prevent water from getting into the core of the ski and possibly rotting it out. 

Think about it.  Techs are supposed to do a torque test on the bindings once they are mounted to make sure that they are releasing correctly.  That requires them to put your boot into the binding.  Obviously they would have had a tough time doing that if the binding was mounted too far back.  So basically that means that they gave you your skis back without checking the forward pressure.  Either that or they used one of your boots and one that was a different size for the other ski. 

Bottom line is that these monkeys owe you a new pair of skis.

that sucks. my shop fucked up a pair of ghetto water ramp skis and gave me a free mount and a 100$ store credit. theyre awesome

Yeah that was me actually. They're so sweet.

And it almost seemed like they mounted the bindings to a bigger boot. I had them center mounted too so even if I were able to move the heel piece up I would have been riding them with a shorter tip than tail.

I'll probably try and ask for new skis and if they don't give them to me I'll try and get a $100 bucks or something.

I might be overreacting but I was just so pissed they did this to me new skis.

And to the person saying to ride them until they break then ask for a refund, they will never do that.

You should get a full refund on the brakes + mount and a free mount, possibly plus some shop credit. Getting new skis is not likely unless you are a customer of the shop (the owner will think you are just buying stuff online and bringing it in for service). On the other hand, if shops want to charge retarded fees for outside mounts (a mount should be $25-40) then they are going to have to step up when they screw up.

Was it $80 for mount + brakes or just brakes? What is the total you paid.

Sorry for the double Post but I figured I would give you guys an update.

The manager just called and he was super nice. He offered to refund me for the Brakes and mount(80 dollar value) and give me an additional $50 gift certificate. So overall I got back $130 so that is pretty sweet.

He also said that when they remounted them that there were only 2 exposed holes on each ski that they were able to fill in. The holes also were under the toe piece so they are not visible.

I'm pretty happy with how this unfortunate situation ended up.

Demand new skis.


A re-mount takes away from the strength and the overall value of a ski, and it's impossible to get that value and strength back. Don't ever settle for anything but a fresh pair of skis if a shop fucks up your mount.

thats good you got your situation resolved so well. aside from the way your situation ended up, i generally would expect new skis if the shop fucks up a mount, last year when i took my little brother's new skis and bindings to be mounted, i got a call back a few days later from the shop tech saying that he accidentally started mounting the first ski back from where i asked, and then without even saying anything he tells me he has already ordered replacement skis, and i will be refunded for the mount because it will take a while longer to get his skis due to the mistake.

I'm sure he was.  I believe they refer to that as Bro Rape!  Hope he at least gave you a reach around.  Yeah he threw some money at you, but he is stoked.  He saved himself over $300 because you caved.  I hope they at least plugged the holes, and didn't just cover them with the toe piece.

The Ski Rack is super legit. Please go into the shop, ask for Matt Manser, and, I'm totally serious, tell him I told you on Newschoolers to talk to him about your problem.

He'll rectify the problem.

dont ask for new skis. thats just dickie. take the free remount, and if the manager is reeeeeally simpathetic and sorry, ask for som gloves or goggles.

nah they fucked up both. I got a refund for the Brakes(45) and mount(35) for $80 and a gift certificate for $50

I'd say you made out ahead in the end. One remount is not going to be the least bit noticable.

Just puzzled as to how these shops are charging what they are for such a simple procedure, and then are screwing upsaid stupid easy procedure.

they fill them in for you. you can have up to three mounts before the ski is noticeably more fragile.


i would say that you want the free remount (and make sure everything is good when you pick them up again) then additionally tell the manager that you know a remount could make a ski weaker and that if the skis break within a season in the area around the old holes (showing that the holes were a reason for the break) you want to have some sort of warranty that they will replace the skis with something similar or the exact model.

stay calm, and dont try to push your luck with getting a free pair of new skis.
