YES!, there is a happy ending!

apparently the kid turned himself in this morning to whistler ski patrol crying, and carrying the movements. I honestly believe that if this kid was a newschooler, the thread and most of the intellegent posts on it really helped him to decide todo the right thing.

as far as punishment goes, i have decided not to press charges only because i have the skis back and i dont want to ruin the kids life, but ski patrol is going to decide on the punishment with the maximum penalty being a lifetime ban from whistler.

Thanks everyone for the vibes, advice and stuff while this was still going on, hopefully everyone else on newschoolers besides these two kids is aware that stealing skis is one of the lowest things that you can do, and that taking away somebodies ability to ski is awful, (especially a fellow ns)...

not everyone is fortunate enough to buy 5 pairs of skis, believe it or not... some of us save up forever to buy new skis and so when we are finally able to purchase them its a huge deal... dont strip that away for somebody.

well not the first time around...
and for these kids, a 10 year ban is like a lifetime ban. For a 14 year old kid, 10 years is their entire memorable life.

1. not up to me how long he is banned
2. he did not do the right thing, he stole (they stole) 2 pairs of new skis, and they are newschoolers, they make me sick. but in the end i did get my skis back yes.

i got my skis, the kids are still pricks, i will let ski patrol handle the rest.

maybe my sarcasm meter is broken, but I think your comment is serious.  Is it?  If it is, then I am disgusted.  He didn't do the right thing. He stole a pair of skis.  Then, when his friend got busted and they had him on video tape AND the police were going to show up at his house, he returned them. 

Why would Whistler want to have this possible happen again?  They have thousands of clients that ski there every year.  I ban the kid in a second.  As a business owner, they want their environment as safe as possible.  I dunno.  Maybe I just see the value of discipline differently.  I think it will be a much better life lesson and he won't do it again than had he been let off.

also, i dont think that a lifetime ban is harsh at all. i could have pressed charges and if he was found guilty (which he would be) then he could be looking at a felony.

i think that not being able to ever get a job better than a nightime janitor greatly ouwieghs not being able to ski at whistler.

I think a lifetime bad is perfectly ok. Even thought i'm kind of bummed, because I was looking forward to seeing this kid on Whistler and curb stomping his ass for doing such a thing. But oh well. Glad to hear you go your dads skis back bro! Love happy endings

Sick man. I'd be careful about saying things like throwing a lifetime ban. If he has anything close to a moral compass he realized by now how awful what he did was and he deeply regrets it. Life is short and you learn from things like this.

Forgiveness is bullshit with things like this.  The fucker intentionally stole some kids skis, which are probably one of his most valuable possessions.  It's so fucking wrong that the person who did it clearly is a complete asshole/fuckhead and won't turn into some super nice kid if you do nothing about it.  Press charges and see if he can get like a 1 year ban only.  Getting banned from Whistler isn't that much of a deal, unless you live there.  It's fucking theft, and should be punished.

Glad you got your skis back man, but don't forget what this kid did in the first place, giving them back doesn't make it even close to right.

But that is sick you got your skis back but I cannot emphasize how mad I get when reading about people getting their skis swapped because it is one of the worst feelings ever to walk our from eating and your skis are gone.

And also, I doubt he handed them back out of any sort of guilt, or ethical consideration. He was simply protecting his own ass from the day when someone from NS spotted a fairly rare pair of skis, matching the description of ones that had been stolen, on the feet on some little kid, and put 2 and 2 together.
