I'm Catholic, and I am overly sick of all this shit. just because some crazy mother fuckers are touchin little boys and just happen to be catholic, it makes every catholic a bad person (according to stupid peices of shit). I wanna slap these guys, and now one of the victim lives near me...what the fuck...

I honestly think its happened once or twice... but this many times is pretty ridiculous and almost unbelievable. I think major changes will come out of the church in the next few years

This isn't the first time the Catholic church has been accused of being blatantly hypocritical and wrong, I wouldn't worry about it too much. For example, that whole "reformation" thing comes to mind...

Some people use religion to justify doing whatever they want. In the case of some prominent Catholics, that just happens to be children's junk.

what is the reasoning behind priests being having to be celibate? i mean why not just let them bang women if they want to?

I used to be a catholic, but am now a radical atheist.

It's not the the god thing that bothers me about catholicism, people have the right to believe in whatever they want to.

What I despise however is that the Pope seems not to give a fuck about the damage his organisation has done. Worldwide, tens of thousands of sex abuse cases have been brought against clergy, and estimates suggest that only 8% of people come forward. The pope then has the audacity to say that he forgives The Beatles? This is a man who covered up abuse of minors. Research from Stanford suggests that 5% of all priests have had sexual contact with a minor. This is not to mention the amount of people worldwide who have died from AIDs due to the church's no contraception policy, the millions upon millions who have died in religious conflict over the years, and the divisions in society it has caused.

Sadly, the Pope knows he is above the law, and no country will be able to try him.

Me, and a lot of my friends have been embittered by our experiences of attending Catholic schools, in which indoctrination was more important that development or good education.

I've got no problems at all with religion, and truthfully, i'm yet to decide what I believe in...but i just find it to be strange how people can so blindly believe in something. I don't know.

With the whole sex scandal, it's just insane to think that people have gone to men who are essentially pedophiles for moral guidance. I'm not saying all priests are like that, but some definitely are, and it's no good.

Maybe it has something to do with the church making people feel ashamed of their natural sexual feelings to gain a moral authority in order to maintain a corrupt money grubbing strangle hold on morons like yourself who think you can get in the good graces of a supreme beign by following an archaic set of rules with no basis in modern society.

no,you shouldn't worry about the 12 year olds, you should worry about the more mature members who have the ability to see how insanely contradictory and ridiculous it is that you follow a religious establishment in which thousands of your priests have sexually molested little boys.

Sorry, catholicism is too watered down to be of substance anymore. So many people identify as christian/catholic because their parents were of that religion, not because catholicism brings them real spiritual solace. People are just carrying the torch. There are still real christians out there, non-wackjob, good old christians/catholics, but not half as many as the numbers say there are.
Besides, look at the history of the middle ages, catholicism went from being a religion to a socially controlling institution. The pope had EVERYONE under his thumb.
I was raised catholic but I have separated myself from it. We can't know there is/isn't a god for sure, so I'm not going to bother.

i am not catholic, i am atheist. but it started a long time ago when the church realized they could save money if they didn't have to support the priest's wife and 10 kids. less housing needed, less food, less money spent. now, where other churches have moved on and modernized, the catholic church is still as sexist, homophobic, and backwards as it always was.
i agree with the 2nd (?) post on here. why would you want to be part of an organization that is so corrupt?

I made this thread to see what you guys thought about the situation. I did not make this thread with the intention of post whores, immature kids (and adults sadly), and supposedly Mormons (no hate) to bash on a religion that they know nothing about. How a couple of you judge the catholic faith based on a couple sex scandals completely fathoms me. I bet your next door neighbor right now, is registered as a sexual predator. The thing is, your not going to go up to him and tell him everything about him is a joke. Sure a couple of you are fairly intelligent and do know to an extent about the situation and the religion. Which I respect, if you have views based on something that you know because you have taken the time to learn about it, i dont care if they are good or bad. But for those of you who are posting to troll and look bad ass because you dis a religion on a social networking site. come on. Let the haters hate.

I fully respect my religion and would never think about abandoning it, so i ask you to respect the post and not disrespect something you have no clue what you are talking about.

1. MADE UP (not based on "jesus'" words)
2. MAKING MISTAKES SINCE ITS FOUNDATION
3. RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS PEDO-STUFF



i have no problem with believers. but dont get me started how much the pope, all bishops and this whole system sucks.

someone has to pay for all these cruel and wrong things priest did to children. if its the church, fine with me. if its all the people that define their believes over the institution "church" rather than "jesus" words, even better.

i am not dissing a religion just to be cool. in fact, i wrote a 75 page paper (high school diploma) about the sense of life. it was pretty much a roundhouse kick into the vaticans face, into the idea of religion in general and so on and so on. i did some research and was raised catholic btw...

as i said, i have no problem with catholic people for the most part, but the institutional version of catholicism is a joke. not even a funny one. more like the ohmybosh-version of a real-life joke.

There is nothing immature about hating religion. It is more mature if anything. Accepting what scientific evidence suggests is far from immature.

And most people do know about the Catholic church. There are plenty of lapsed Catholics in here, myself included. I'm just glad that I used to be a Catholic, so I know that my aversion and contempt towards the Church is more than justified.

Well that is just false. The Church's practice of celibacy come's from the Judaic practice of abstaining from sex 24 hours before serving at the alter, a practice also partaken by the Eastern Orthodox churches whom allow their priests to marry. The Roman Catholic teaching however is that priests must serve mass daily, and if you are abstaining 24 hours before everyday, you are abstaining always.
