weird i was just gonna start a thread like this in the next few days....


june 11-july 11 i will be completely occupied watching this.

France will win it. Don't question me on why, i know they currently suck. I'm french though, what choice have i got?

My only advise for this world cup-SUPPORT THE COUNTRY YOU ARE FROM!

Nothing pisses me off more than the fairweather fans who pick up a foreign country just for the world cup, especially since most of them don't even follow football to begin with.

im looking forward to the england usa match. I went to wembley last time they played and it was so legit, there was around 200 usa fans and 85,000 england fans. All credit to them at times they made more noise that us. hahah

I'm saying Germany, not only because I'm German, but because of their death of Enke. The whole country of Germany mourned his suicide, and now his teammates really want to win in honor of him. Also, it's Ballacks last real chance of winning (in 4 years he will be too old to be a starter, possibly a backup) and Germany also has schweinsteiger and podolski, who should be playing for poland but we all know that story

Well if i wanna rep my home country I gotta go with USA as most of us would, but once they get eliminated Im all for Spain.  I've been a fan for years of the beauty they seem to bring to the game, I think their passing game is top notch and its a pleasure to watch.  I also love watching two of the best defenders (Ramos and Puyol) in the world play wonderfully but then fuck it up when it counts most.  I like Fabregas a lot, and torres+villa= one of the biggest scoring threats on any team out there.

England's been struggling the last few years of international play, most pointedly their failure to qualify for the Euro Cup in '08. That's not to say they will continue this pattern, but i just can't see them as a cup contender this year.
As much as i love Germany, i've had a weird feeling about them as of late. Not seeing them in the finals.
The USA will surprise a few people (mostly your typical american who knows nothing about soccer) and will go decently far. But definitely not a cup contender.
I would be putting most of my faith in Spain, if they hadn't been beaten by the US squad last summer. Sure, it was basically just a World Cup warmup game, but both teams were playing most of- if not all- their normal starting 11. They'll be a very interesting team in this tournament.
My darkhorse is Netherlands for sure. Lacking the flashy names of countries like Portugal, England, Brazil, etc..., they manage to sneak up on teams every once in a while. This will be Van der Saar's farewell performance in the World Cup, if not all of soccer. Look for the Dutch to rally around VdS; i could see them in the finals without a doubt.
As for who's going to win? No idea.
But i'm fucking stoked.

Well I root for 1st country of citizenship, then second, then the country I will be in during the final for party purposes.

So it goes:

-USA
-England
-Argentina

Realistically I see Spain, Argentina, and Brazil running train.

No one should count the US out although i do doubt that they'll actually win the whole thing. However, they could do surprisingly well. They proved in the Confederations Cup that they're a highly capable team by beating Spain 2-0 in the semis and giving Brazil a tough game in the finals.

Would love to see New Zealand do well. Was in the stadium when we beat Bahrain and qualified for the first time in 30 odd years. Memory gets a bit hazy after that though haha.

Realistically though, Germany (not really, Bayern actually) = place of birth. So obviously be rooting for the homeboys aswell.

Now way thats sick. I too want to go cause SA is by far the sickest country I have ever been too. The stadium in cape town right off the water front looks sooooo dope. How sick would it be if SA's team was actually competitive.

My stoke for this world cup has been up since 2008 when I went there because the airport in Cape Town had a counter with how many days left till the world cup starts. Im a little bummed that I cant watch it though cause ill be working at a summer camp, thus meaning I wont have any cable, or TV in that matter haha

I want Ivory Coast to go far so bad cause Drogba and Kalou are soooo sick, but they got into the hardest group in the whole tourney, Brazil, Cote d'Ivoire, Korea and Portugal, so I think it is safe to say they don't have much of a chance.... Still gonna pull for them tho

its gonna be tough. spain, argentina, brazil, italy, netherlands, france, ivory coast are all good teams, but i am going with germany.

they have an "easy" group (at least as easy as it gets in a WC) and should be able to build confidence. from then on, its 1on1, and that is just where germans excel in WCs.

i think the team in 2002 (lost final) was worse, 2006 (3rd) and 2008 (EC lost final) were similar to now imo.

I think Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Italy all have legitimate shots. But I think the Dutch are going to take it.

They are just solidly consistent...RVP is back now, Kuyt, VDV, Huntelaar, Sneijder, Robben is playing well.

I don't think Spain will perform up to their talent level...Torres is a beast but he seems to get too emotional and never plays to his potential. Villa could do well for them though.

Brazil is Brazil, enough said.

Messi and Maradona could propel Argentina, but the general consensus there is that Messi is more of a Catalan than an Argentinian. If he plays the way he does for Barca, they could go far though...

Germany has Schweinsteiger and Ballack, but Podolski is junk. I don't see them making it past the quarters.

Italy is very strong. Buffon, Camo, Pirlo, Toni have the experience....then there is Chiellini, Cassano, the pride of NJ Giuseppe Rossi, and di Natale that are the young ones...they could do well.

Are you kidding? Podolski will go down as one of the best ever German players in history. He's made such an impact so quick in a few years, and established a pretty good name for himself. If anything I thought you'd say Ballack is too old or something, but Podolski is on the top of his game right now, I bet the Polish for stupid for calling him up

podolski isn't terrible, but he's essentially sabotaging his own career. He needs to move to a bigger side that plays more against harder opposition.
