It has been proven to me over and over again that people should meet a higher criteria in order to get a driver's license. any thoughts?

Yeah, this had been discussed here before. I think there should be a renewal process every 10 years. People suck at driving and keep killing everyone/themselves.

like in finland, where the entire process is way more in depth. getting your license takes somewhere around 5 years, and there are more steps taken to establish whether a person is capable of driving a car on public roads.

It really wouldn't help. Most people are not very natural when they first start driving, but they get better from doing it. The really shitty drivers still suck at it after years and years of driving, and I doubt making them take more lessons or whatever would make them any better. It is just kinda an unavoidable fact that when you have people sitting in hunks of metal weighing thousands of pounds going at high speeds, people are going to get hurt.

Yeah. The reality is that worrying about our driving problems is very insignificant on the large problem that humanity is fucked. We have been fucked for such a long time, it is completely impossible to make any productive changes. We just have to deal with with shit world we have created. You can hope for some great changes or something to save the world, but the reality is that it will gradually get worse until we run our time and die off. We (humans) had a great opportunity to make a pretty great world here, but it was too much responsibility and we messed it up.

and yea, make everyone redo a test every 10 years. Bump up the age to get a license too.

Because I felt like it? Because if there were more tests, or a renewal process, I don't think it would change much. People would just skip out on staying current with the program more often. More people would have out of date licensees, or no license at all. Placing more rules on people when they have been used to something for a long time will just cause more people to blow it off and ignore it.

The exact opposite should be true in Canada. Honestly, my brother and sister are both competent drivers and are still using their G2's because the G test is so difficult. It's sooo stupidly hard, but then you see Asians driving around, doing rolling stops, and cutting people off and shit. They must be paying the testers.

the big problem is the deterioration of older drivers...we had to take my grandmas license because she was unfit to drive but nobody challenged it. I think there should be a test after the first 10 years and then every 5 years after that

So that is why no one is ever murdered. People never drink alcohol under 21. Drive a car without a license. Produce, sell, and consume drugs. Driver over the speed limit. Rape young children. Steal.......

These things NEVER happen, right?

the problem isnt how easy it is to get. its what the drivers license is used for. its everyones main form of ID. two Id's would solve this. but thats not going to happen.

yes there needs to be something like a renewal process.  My girlfriends roommate has totaled 4 cars and has gotten 3 tickets.  she is only 18 and i think she should not be allowed to drive, it's too dangerous to let her drive.  there are some bad guy drivers too, my friends roommate likes to tail gate everyone for some reason....bad drivers piss me off.

how often do you just go outside your door and see those things occurring?

This morning alone i had to step over some underage drinkers who had been murdered someone raping children while high on drugs sped by, and he didn't even have a license!

Yes people break laws, they always have, and always will. But the majority of the population don't. And i doubt people are gonna go absolutely insane over needing to retake a driving exam every 10 years.

I just don't see how it really affects whether or not people would go take a simple driving exam once every decade.

i thought like that too, until my g2 expired and i had to go all the way back to square 1 and take my g1 written test again, then my g2 exit and then my g exit.  if you take you g out in the boondocks there is nothing to be worried about.  i even had to drive my dads chrysler 300c which is a huge car with little experience behind the wheel on it and i managed to pass it.  i would tell them to give it a shot.  its better to get it done before the bad habits are ingrained into your driving.

The driving test should be very difficult, not the writing test or whatever but the actual test in the car.  People have no idea what their cars can do, are very timid, and just stupid in general.  The age requirement should be 16 as it is now.  You just have to practice a driving a lot to actually be good enough to pass the test.  Anyone can scape by with a sketchy parallel park or whatever on the current test.  I have a friend whose sister just got her license, and she is sketchy as fuck.  Running red lights, taking her hands off the wheel to shift, just retarded shit.  People also need to be taught how roundabouts work, right of way rules,etc.  I recently came to an intersection and I had a stop sign and the car on my right didn't.  A car arrives at the intersection from my right, no stop sign, before I do.  I stop at the sign and wait,  the car on my right waves me to go.  I just freaked out, not only were they on my right, they arrived first, and I had a stop sign.  3 rules of right of way ignored.  What fuckheads.  Drivers suck.

Statistically, women drivers are in less accidents and less prone to drive under the influence than men.

Hence our car insurance premiums being less than yours.

Don't know about North America, but in the UK, you don't have to get your license renewed until you're 80.

I passed at 17, which means for 63 years, no one will re-evaluate whether I'm fit to drive. In this time, I could get any number of problems, ailments or diseases that would make me unfit to drive, but no one would know.

Also, there is apparently over 800,000 drivers who haven't driven for over 20 years, but, if they wanted, could just get back behind the wheel and go. Seems like a odd system, considering the amount of fuckery caused by cars and their drivers each year

good drivers dont get into accidents they know whats goin on at all times and should be somewhat cautios when entering a sitaution with an unknown unless u get slammed into while stopped most other things can be avoided with attention

they should just make the road test a lot harder and make it include defensive and poor condition driving

and there should be no waiting time, if you can drive as good as a experienced driver your first week then all the power to your, but if you suck itll prob take you 5 years anyway

Then clearly you are meeting the wrong kind of girls.

On the plus side, the wrong kind of girl usually drives slower and more cautiously to begin with. They just annoy the hell out of you when stuck behind them. But at least they will live to see another day.


Personal opinion, everyone should drive stick, makes you a lot more aware.

Haha its actually 2 years to get ur full license, and i like it as the way it is here, after seeing the ridiculous license in NZ (no hate, they have cool whips there)
And im honestly lolling at my friend ( a girl ofc ) who has tried atleast like 4 or 5 times without clearing

Having a permit for 6 months should be plenty enough driving experience if you actualy get some hours in, the stupid people will continue to be stupid no matter how much you try to cram into their head

Thats how it is in a lot of countries in Europe. One of my friends is from Danmark and she told me everything I did would be rights for failiure on a driving preparation course, not even the test. Just goes to show how bad and easy it is for people to be allowed to drive in this country.

That will never work in the US because have you ever been to a fucking DMV? They can hardly handle people getting their license's for the first time, imagine be required to go every few years? It would be impossible for that slow ass establishment to handle those numbers of people.  And as for increasing the age to obtain a license? That's fucking retarded as well, because think about what your saying...you've basically waited until you are now old enough to shaft the younger generation and that's been going on for years and it's bullshit (think drinking age, recent restrictions on obtaining a license, etc).

No idea what you guys have in Ontario? But like the BC system isn't too bad, like 12 months for an L and 24 months for an N. I used to think it was stupid long process, but being able to drive at 16 really insn't that big of a deal.

What terrifies me is that my grandama at 90 who can hardly hear the TV or read what the toaster oven says still drives... And some how passed her exam last year.

i think it shouldn't be so easy for people to get birth certificates. you should have to pass an intelligence test before you are allowed to reproduce. it would solve a lot of problems.

If you are from another country, especially one that doesn't have cars or modern roadways, you will suck dick at driving, and therefore need to be adequately educated before being issued a license. Immigrants are the worst drivers on the road by far. They aren't aggressive like teens are, they are just unsure of what they are doing and so they hesitate or are timid and do something retardedly dangerous without even knowing it. I would not feel comfortable going to China and hopping in a car and trying to get through downtown Beijing, so why are they allowed to come here and fuck up traffic for me? pisses me right off.

reason our premiums are higher is because when boys are 16-18, they're the biggest fucking idiots out there. hormones raging, watching too much fast and furious... etc. but as time goes on, i realize that i'm way more comfortable in a car with more men than women... and also have met many more women who have been in multiple accidents since getting their licenses. i base this on that its not the person who's driving, its how stupid that person is to let them be totally distracted WHILE driving (texting, calling, changing clothes, putting makeup on, etc.). but yeah i totally agree with you on driving standard. that should be the way people need to learn how to drive, and only drive with... of course if they are physically able to.

not true. Recent studies have shown women cause more accidents overall. But men cause slightly more damage than women when they do crash.

Also, more dangerous than drunk driving, is that almost half of women are more likely to NOT wear their prescription glasses when driving.

What should really be more difficult to attain is a motorcycle license.

My buddy in Georgia went for his exam, passed it, and bought a bike...in the same day. Someone, with 2 hours of experience, was driving a vehicle much faster than a Ferrari...this is how statistics are made.

In Quebec it's a fair process---15 hours theory, 16 hours closed circuit practice, then a closed circuit exam (all tight turns and hard braking), 7 months probationary (can't ride alone), then you can take your final road test. Once you pass the final road test (an evaluator follow you for an hour), no passengers for two years.

With cars, there will always be idiots, no matter what.

Not to mention, if everyone was evaluated every 10 years...or whatever, there would be substantially fewer cars on the road. Less fuel sales, drivers license renewals, insurance...The government doesn't like losing money.

it's definitley pretty ridiculous how bullshit it is. I know girls who can't parallel park at all, can't make decisions in traffic flow to save their lives, are always freaking out and having mad anxiety while driving and can't keep their shit cool, almost hitting mad people n shit. They got their shit after the first time.

on the other hand, i've never been in an accident, i can park anywhere, i can make decisions in heavy traffic without freaking out, i've never been pulled over or anything, i feel i'm a pretty good driver. it took me 2 times to get it my license and the difference between the two tests was retarded. the first test was 45 minutes long and i failed in the last 5 minutes. the second test was 15 minutes long, and the dude told me to show him that i could drive faster.
