Flipping in b/s/t

I'm getting pretty sick of kid's trying to flip "rare" stuff for profit in b/s/t. NS b/s/t used to be awesome because kids hook you up with their old stuff for sick deals, and they'd get some good cash out of it.

I think we should make a strict no flipping rule, I'm pretty sure there used to be one. if you wanna sell something you think is rare throw that shit on ebay and tell people on NS about it.

The shit is so whack there - the things that are expected and are said are absolutely outrageous.  I used to be a B/S/T whore; I spent probably 95% of my NS time there.  Now I spend next to none.

Its true that the mentality is gone, but NS itself has changed.  Its no longer a tight knit community and we can't change that.  Hell, I can't even claim to be part of the tight knit community - I'm member 90k or something.

Along with that expansion went the mentality.  I think, unfortunately, that we on NS rely too heavily on the benevolance of our fellow skiers to hook us up - now that NS has expanded to encompass more people, the balance has shifted.  I think that it is the new mentality that is "normal" - that people want to profit/get the most for what they have.  It is, in my opinion, the old mentality that was out of the ordinary.  It was special, that's what it was.

Unfortunately I think there have been maybe 30 bagillion threads on this - people know whats up, people know what's changed, and people know that sadly nothing will change it back to the way it was, aside from booting thousands of members from the site.  A changing demographic is a fact of life.  It works the same way in countries too - if politics change, so be it.  You can either sit back and complain about the old days, like crusty, old-dog Soviets, or you can move on.  It happens.

If NS can no longer be what it used to, then I guess we're outta luck.  You'll have to find somewhere else to get a hookup, although I can safely say that they're are still gems that pop up in B/S/T...

Yeah last year even the b/s/t was a much better place.
It was 100x less cluttered and more trustable.

I have to agree that I would love to see the BST return to a forum where members truly are there to hook up our community with awesome deals. A place with cheap gear, 100% success rate transactions and no scammers. The focus has changed somewhat over the years, with things now being more about selling everything every year in hopes of getting next years latest and greatest, but that is not to say that there are not good people and good deals to be had. You picked out 4 threads out of the Hundreds of currently active sales, and as usual the bad draws focus from the good.

We are currently discussing what we plan to do with the BST, but don't expect any quick drastic changes. As for what goes in there, we have left that up to you guys to somewhat self moderate. The flippers can't flip if noone wants to pay their prices, and scammers can't scam if people call them out for what they are. We can't moderate every sale thread to ensure it is legit and fits all of the criteria of a proper sale if it stays as a forum, and we will not begin policing to say what is a fair price for anything.

We are open to suggestions on how to make this work for everyone, but considering the number of threads and sales happening, it is obviously working for someone

but i think the point he is trying to make is that this is supposed to be a COMMUNITY.  Its not some outlet for business and profit. The BST should be for selling your old stuff that you no longer use, not for selling a brand new jiberish sweater that you bought just so you could flip it and make some cash.

Flipping technically isn't allowed. So yeah, people talking about how it's okay to make a profit, of course it is. It just isn't okay here, unless you are an advertising partner. This is not a free ebay service. Used to be we'd just ban people for flipping gear, but the position we've been taking for a while now is that we have no role to play in buying and selling that goes on between the members, that's between you guys. It's good to see the community enforcing these kinds of standards though.

i agree 110% with this. i think that everyone in bst should be there to give/get deals. whenever i sell anything i try to price it reasonably for what it is, i can honestly say i have never made a profit on anything iv sold, for example, awhile ago i sold this kid some pants for 25 bucks and i made him super stoked and i felt good about it.

maybe there should be a cult that is more exclusive, and have to be known as someone with good prices to get in, don't even let people in who are just looking to buy and never sell at a good price(I wouldn't get in....I buy all the time, hardly ever sell....)

flipping is always going to be there. if kids are willing to buy shit for more than retail, let them. they're only screwing themselves.

if you want to get rid of a problem in b/s/t, let's stop all the stupid fucking threads where kids are trying to sell their useless shit.
b/s/t is where people should be selling their ski-related stuff, not things that didn't sell at their most recent yard sale.

Flipping does annoy me, but it's the scamming that drives me crazy. I've been scammed and it fucking sucks, but what can I say/do? All I can really do is hope that karma comes back and bites that immature fuck right in the ass. I too have pretty much stopped with the BST. All I do is sell stuff on there, but I am done being a buyer on there. Mainly because I can find something brand new from a legit site, like Backcountry, for basically a few bucks more. Too bad kids haven't realized that if no one offered high prices, kids might stop flipping.

This is the way I see it.  If the seller isn't asking for more than they bought it, then I don't see it as flipping.  Everyone knows Jiberish is going to sell for more than it was purchased for.  And half the time kids are starting their prices low, but so many people bid on it that the price goes way over the original value.  People who purposely flip shit is not cool though.

Don't blame the flipper, blame the dumb-fuck who paid for it. The seller never determines the price. The buyers do.

If people were not buying stuff that is flipped, then people would stop flipping it.

If your too week to resist paying too much for something, then you probably shouldn't be trusted with money in the first place.

Get over it. The world does not exist to hook you the fuck up.
