The average lifestyle of the skier is a super healthy one, so I will say I don't think this helps.

no. people are saying it's tobacco. and probably assuming it comes with the same health risks as smoking. the nicotine makes you addicted (not saying it's all good), it's all the other stuff in cigarettes that kills you.

So essentially snus is all the "high", but with not nearly the same health risks. Sure it may be a bit coarse on your gums but it doesn't kill you. some have claimed that it causes throat cancer, but last I heard that wasn't proven.

I'd much rather see kids doing snus than smoking

Plus... wasn't Pete at Windells all last Summer (or was it C.O.C.) either way, he's pretty much surrounded by the groms at the camps all day long, that's a horrible sponsorship for someone in his position, I just lost a lot of respect for him becasue clearly he has A LOT of influence on skiing youth

its true, but tobacco is the crop that feeds that whole subculture. When I lived in north carolina there were a host of farmers who grew tobacco and made meth, wifebeaters and shit. Any way you cut the cards, tobacco is lining the pockets of the wrong people, even if it is only snus

Pete is the man. But I do have to correct you on the double flip mania in the pipe started by Pete. Scott Hibbert was doing double backflips to switch in the pipe a year before Pete did the whiskey, but since he isn't in X games, Pete got all the exposure for it.

I personally don't think this is a good move. It's no secret how popular snus is, and has been, w/ industry folks who frequent Europe.

However, advertising a tobacco product to kids isn't cool. I have no problem sharing my view with anyone on the team - including Schmuck if that's true. Although, I don't see Schmuck allowing them to advertise on this site, nor do I see him promoting them here. He's a big boy, along w/ the rest of these guys, and allowed to do as he pleases.

This indeed doesn't help Pete's reputation, but that's his problem.

Advertising carcinogenic products to kids is much different - and he doesn't see it as his problem. Poor character IMO.

The sale of snus is illegal in the European Union[1][2], but due to exemptions, it is still manufactured and consumed primarily in Sweden and Norway, although it is now available in the United States.

The nicotine in tobacco is still incredibly bad for you.  When you get the buzz, your blood vessels in your heart open and close.  After they do this for an extended period of time, they become hard and inflexible.  It leads to severe heart problems.

Why is no one getting up in arms about Red Bull sponsoring athletes? Caffeine consumption is not recommended for the youth, but they target the youth the hardest.

Until people start complaining about Red Bull being involved in the sport, I'm ok with tobacco being involved. The way I look at it is that most athletes struggle to live comfortably, so more sponsors with deep pockets are better.

Are you kidding? Why else do you think ski companies, goggle companies, energy drink companies, etc. pay him money to represent them?

I guess you better call up all those high paid "fucking idiot" marketing executives with all their stupid theories based on proven market research, and marketing degrees, and inform them to get a "grip on life" too, because obviously they are lacking your wisdom.

It's called drawing a line somewhere....

Think of it this way, if you are a parent, you will probably try to discourage your 13 year old child from drinking redbull, or eating big macs, etc. But you probably won't ground them for a month if you catch them doing one of these things.

Whereas if you catch them smoking or drinking or doing heroin or screwing thai prostitutes, then you will likely punish them more severely.

You can't just say that this is the same as any company that advertises a product with less than ideal health consequences, because black and white logic like that doesn't apply in the real world, and you gotta decide to draw a line somewhere.

although im not against tobacco in skiing ads that computer graphic- presentation of snus in the intro was just tacky for lack of better words. seems pretty childish the replies freeskier put on that comment wall, its pretty easy to conclude more 18-25 year olds are gonna have the patience to fill out a survey than teenagers/ kids basic statistics can display that.

yes it is. lots of my friends use snus.

but i think it has no place in skiing advertisements, etc. all you fools trying to defend this are retarded, tobacco is bad for you, and little kids (who read ski mags and religiously worship pro skiers) are easily influenced. I agree that "what you do is your own problem" or whatever, but when you push it into the faces of kids through advertisements and competition sponsorships, it is no longer "your own problem"
