No actually. While I do like all of those bands, I wouldn't call any of them my favorite. I listen to a lot of stuff, new and old. Just most of the music I listen to that was made after 1979 isn't from major record labels or played on the radio or anything. I don't think music made before 1979 is better, I just think a lot of the popular music from the 50's, 60's, and 70's is really good, but nowadays for some reason nothing good ever gets major.

Back then they had Bob Dylan. One of my favorite acoustic artists now who I feel is comparable is Erik Petersen. No one has heard of him though except DIY anarcho squatter punks.

And actually I find a lot of classic rock to be kind of boring. I didn't like Pink Floyd until I listened to it on shrooms and learned to play it on guitar. Led Zep is great but I don't listen to them very much, same with The Who.

Right now I'm really only listening to undergound hip hop, drum&bass, reggae, and a little tiny bit of death metal. I love blues, folk, punk, ska, lots of other music, but right now I don't really see any new stuff coming out that is any good. Even Streetlight Manifesto's last album wasn't that good. Starfucking Hipsters is aight but its no LoC. Black Dahlia Murder and Between the Buried and Me both just put out really good cd's, and the new AOTP was cool but it didn't really grab me like the previous albums.

I just really don't like Modest Mouse I think all their songs are really annoying. Also OHMYBOSH does for sure listen to a bunch of shitty indie bands, I've seen him talking about them in various threads before. Indie bands in general are not good. There are exceptions of course, like Deloused in the Comatorium.....and uh....I'm sure theres other stuff too.

See thats the thing, "shitty indie bands" is a totally subjective statement, where you might see shit, others may see an intellectual accomplishment. I could sit here and tell you Drum n bass is repetitive and boring, black metal just sounds like a fucking refrigerator running and screaming, ska, well fuck, ska is just goofy. But I don't, not just because I respect the fact that everyone has separate tastes, but I can see the intrinsic value of all of that music, even if I don't listen to it ( just for reference I listen to all of those besides black metal, which I just don't like the sound, but can still respect the technicality of it). When someone hates on music another type of music, it just tells me they're narrow minded, sure you may not like it, but all music is worth appreciation. Because every song is different, every genre has something else to bring to the table, and when someone talks down on music just because its different from what they listen to, they are hating the most important and impressive part of music, the part that keeps me completely and utterly enamored, the sheer versatility and complexity of it, its ability to change and adapt, what makes it music.

BTW I realize that not all of that was underground. But AOTP and Immortal are considered underground, no one listens to Binary Star, Magical Mystery Chambers wasn't even released officially, and Dj Yoda is only popular in England. That is just the hip hop I'm listening to this week.

AOTP and Immortal Technique are not Underground. Reality Check by Binary Star is ridiculously good, but I wouldn't say they are underground either. See here's the thing, generic indie bands have talent. Generic pop stars have none.

Here's a local Minnesotan indie band.

Though they don't really bring anything new to the table, they are obviously talented and have produced a quality song with meaning behind it.

This, is a generic pop star.

Brings nothing new to the table, and obviously have absolutely no talent, and there is no meaning to this song. (I love the Lupe remix to this though^)

Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands to ever exist, not liking them until you shroomed to their music shows a lack of musical experience and appreciation. Same goes for the Who.

You need to expand your horizons and check out some different music if you don't think any new stuff is good.

On top of that, De-Loused in the Comatorium is not an indie band, it is an album, you fucktard, by The Mars Volta, who is one of the most progressive rock bands in existence today (not indie), and is one of the bands who IS changing the face of music, which you apparently think nobody is achieving.

All in all, you've made several of the stupidest posts I've ever seen on this site concerning music, and thoroughly embarassed yourself. You're out of your league, and I suggest you leave, get educated, come back, and then try again.

I would argue chillwave is making a comeback. Bands like Discovery and Neon Indian are making it very accessible and fun.

Also if you are into electronic (Not gay-ass biggie remixes,) then check out some experimental labels:

Family Moon and Planet Mu are putting out some absolutely unheard sounds.

also I would dare say EOTO is changing the face of EDM, fusing so many styles into their all-improvised sets. Their shows WILL change your life.

I really enjoyed some of the earlier stuff. This is a long drive album was one of my favorites. The song that are huge now don't affect that for me. The way I enjoyed the earlier albums and ep's.

Obviously its an album I was just making the distinction that I only really think that album was good and didn't like any of the other ones. Saw them live once, good show. Played with The Pixies.

And you can say Immortal Technique isn't underground, but the fact is he's not on a major record label and he is considered underground. I agree he isn't really underground, but it doesn't change the fact that that whole category (Ill Bill, JMT, etc) is just called underground by the majority of people to listen to it and it differentiates those artists from artists that are actually uber famous and on major record labels and all over yo tv.

Personally I think that no one can fully comprehend and appreciate Pink Floyd without listening to it on shrooms and that not realizing that shows your lack of musical experience.

Listening to Pink Floyd on shrooms has nothing to do with the music. Waters, Gilmour, Wright and Mason all stayed away from most drugs (excluding marijuana) except for a temporary cocaine habit that Gilmour developed after his time with the band, and we all know about Syd Barrett. I don't know what you think the music is about, but its really not that complicated. Their lyrics are intentionally vague so more people can relate to them, which is what gives it so much interpretive value. You probably think that shrooming helped you understand it, but it just gave you an interpretation which you feel was the correct one.

If you want to tell me what you think the correct interpretation of one of their songs is based off shrooming and enlighten me as to your higher understanding of their music, go ahead.

If you don't think the other Mars Volta albums were good, maybe you need to listen to them a little more. They're incredible pieces of work.

I think you misunderstood him, he is actually saying music is subjective, his statement was a sarcastic mockery of who he was quoting, because they were implying that there is a right and wrong musical opinion, which would make music objective, when it is clearly not.
