Although it appears that hes jumping from "space", he is jumping from the stratosphere... so its not like he has to go through re-entry or anything.

Still fucking cool though.

I'm confused about #1. If he jumped when he was in the stratosphere, and was traveling almost 1000 km/h, once he entered the regular atmosphere again, wouldn't the deceleration from the air pressure be enough to kill him? Or at least be insane? I mean obviously not because he didn't die, but I was under the impression that human terminal velocity was about 125 mph. I need a NS physicist to explain this to me.

I'm no physicist either but I would have thought that the zone in which it goes from air to no air is very gradual, so he probably slowed down over a longer time and huge distance. And I think the suit he had probably would have dealt with the rest of the pressure.

as was said, it's a very gradual deceleration. It's not as if he just hit a wall of air as he entered the normal atmosphere again.

and as far as i know, he was able to fall so fast because he was so high up, and wind resistance had no effect on him until he was at a normal altitude. I believe i read somewhere that he also used multiple parachutes to slow himself down to a reasonable speed. Still ridiculous to do it. Just imagine being that high, then opening the little gate thing, and stepping out into nothing.

Well, everything I thought of saying while watching that has been said but, Red Bull was in like half those, they know how to do it big.  Travis on the list twice, probably the biggest daredevil of our time.  And 15 minute free fall?!!  WOW, that would be the coolest feeling ever.  I want to see Travis try it, I bet he would.

The change in air pressure is gradual as stated above. It's is not like he suddenly hit a dense pocket of air. Also he was wearing a space suit, which have internal pressurization. Think about space walks; these suits are designed to operate in many environments, underwater, on the ground, and in zero-g. During the ascent to 102,800ft, Kittinger lost pressurization in his right hand, and it became useless. Contrary to many beliefs, you can survive exposure to a vacuum for about 30 seconds. Your blood does not freeze/boil instantly because of skin's retention properties. Also heat transfer from a warm body to the near absolute zero temp in open space actually happens slowly.

When they say 1000km/h that is his top speed, which was probably recorded halfway in the stratosphere. In the troposphere, the atmospheric pressure is much grater and gradual, slowing him down to normal terminal velocity around 200mp/h at a aerodynamic position. 125mp/h is the most in a non 'bullet' shaped position.
