Most of the threads out there are old or about problems, so a new one.

Anyone out there slackline?
I just got on my line for the first time this spring, and remembered how fun and relaxing it is

Not a lot beats setting up a line on a nice warm day.

For my setup, I use two ratchet tie-down straps as anchors, and the rest is made from webbing and 5 caribiners. The system is self-locking when you tighten it. If anyone needs, I can out a little more detail into the set up.

It's soooo much easier to do tricks and jump with shoes on though. Less feel, but a bigger surface area.

sure, you just need 1" tubular webbing and carbiners, you get get both of those at your local mountaineering/outdoor store or rei. PM me if you have other questions

i got my webbing from rei, as long as it as 1" tubular its good rei sells for $0.32 a foot
my biners are Omega? they are just cheap climbing biners, they were like $7 a piece

Hell yeah been busting mine out on the regular. Only have 3 carabiners though, so it is extra swingy, i'v been doing a lot of surfing

surfing is really fun, but can get sketchy.
one of my local climbing gyms has a slackline and a nice soft springy floor, which is good for trying tricks on.

i'm not into this but there is a pretty sweet little set up here in duluth.basically they tie it up from the pillar to the top of the structure.

i have been getting a few pm's about what you need and how, so i thought i'd put it up here

there are lots of good videos on youtube of how to set up a line.
you need about the length you want the line to be+about 5-10 feet for the tensioning system of 1" tubular webbing
2 10 foot pieces of 1" tubular webbing tied to make 2 loops, which will be your anchors, the part that goes on the tree.
5 carabiners to connect the line to the anchors and make a pully system to tighten the line, it should cost around $50 at an outdoor store or rei.
make sure the webbing is tubular, because it is much stronger, and the youtube videos will be very helpful

There are a bunch of different variations on the setup and materials, but this will be a good start until you find the way you like to do it.

i like having 5 to start out with, it makes everything easy, but then i found my own way to do it that i like better with 4.
I think it is personal preference on how to setup up and how many biners, but i think 5 was good to start with.

I dont like the girth hitch much i always seem to get a half twist in the line with it

Just keep at it! Most people shake a lot when they first start, but after a little while you begin to build better muscle stability and become smoother.  It's really great cross training for sports like longboarding where you get speed wobbles.

The first few times can be frustrating, but when you get it its SUCH a great feeling.  It's like standing on a cloud. :D

shit is legit as fuck. always thought its bullshit and way to tough, but i work as a high ropes course instructor and have to be there (with or without guests) from 1-6. so i thought, why not whip out that slackline (just lies around there, it belongs to my boss, but he never uses it) and go for it.

today was the third day i did it, something about 30 ft between the trees or so. about 3 ft high and in the middle you go about halfway down, feels kinda loose. but i was so stoked when i made it today, only once, but its great how fast you get better. i mean (everyone does probably), i remember my first time trying to stand up. it sucked so much and i gave up (last year or so).


but now its ON, i am gonna be a fucking pro by september (unless some people actually show up, but i dont think so). really thinking about throwing a back off someday soon ("soft" woodchip all over the ground), might go for it.


bottom line: if anyone is out there and thinks, "meh, i tried it once but its sooo hard", just try it one or two sessions and you are addicted, really. and you get better fast, fuck yea.

every time i see somebody slacklining they have to set it up in a place where there are plenty of people nearby to see them doing it. and they almost always have their shirts off.
