Out of a group as large as our army, of course you are going to have some fucked up individuals, but as was said earlier, don't generalize the entire group based upon the horrible actions of a few. I happen to know quite a few people over there putting their lives on the line. I don't agree with the war and why we are over there, but nevertheless I thank the people I know for their service.

I'm not saying it was right, but we all have the comfort of viewing stuff from the comfort of our homes. When you are out there, both doing your job and being in a combat zone, things are completely different. War is not pretty. I did sense some hesitation in the gunner's voice, but he was being egged on. You join the army knowing the lengths you will have to go to. It's a tough thing to stomach, and its the reason so many of our troops come back depressed and haunted by what they had to do. You know this guy is going to relive this shit over and over in his head. Not everybody is a mindless killing machine.

it's like police brutality...some of them will do fucked up shit but the majority of them are there doing their job. make 10000 people do the same job, guarantee everyone will have his/her own approach, many of those will be fucked up and appalling, most of them will be satisfactory. the generalizations based off the less frequent accounts are just ridiculous

also not to mention at the beginning a guy had an rpg and someone was firing, they came around the corner with the intention to take out those guys and ended up slaying a bunch of civilians

i dont think any of us can sit here and critique this from the comfort of our suburban homes, if you were sitting in iraq worried about your chopper getting shot down, you would probably shoot people. im not defending these guys, it was terrible what they did, but im just saying the whole army isn't a twisted brutal group of civilian killers who do this shit for fun

I was literally about to post this. This video made me so sick, i have no respect for American soldiers in Iraq they are butchers and murders. This video just provides some proofs. I felt sick watch those poor men be mowed down and wanted to see that helicopter shot down after hearing what the soldiers in it were saying about the men they just murdered

it was as cold and mechanic as fucking call of duty, that's gotta be an issue with chopper gunners, it doesn't feel like they're killing as much as it would if they went up to civilians with a shotgun and blew them to pieces

If you feel so strongly about it why dont you try to do something about it instead of posting on NS bitching. Join the army and DONT kill civilians, just like 99% of the people in thee army. War is hell. Shit like this happens, there is no doubt about it, that is part of war. It just something you have to accept. These guys try to play by a set of rules that are almost impossible to adhere to, and when they fuck up, the media crucifies them and they are court martialed and sent to jail in their own country, for what? Serving their country and making a mistake in the heat of the moment.  I find it funny how everyone says they support the troops blah blah blah, and then when they make a mistake they throw them under the bus. What about the insurgents and terrorists? Do you think they abide by the rules of the geneva convention? I think not. These men are doing the best they can fighting this war.  Try playing a game of chess where one side has to follow the rules, and the other can move however they want.... tell me how that works out for you. We give these men the trust to make decisions not based on what the situation looks like in retrospect, but as it appears to them at the time, with adrenaline coursing through your system and people getting killed around you, it is understandable that a mistake like this would happen.

God damn I hate kids like you, trying to appear all liberal and shit. fuck you. Dont generalize the entire army  (which I insult now and again too, but that is good hearted teasing at most because I'm joining the marine corps)  for the mistakes of a few. All of the men in the army, marines, navy, airforce, etc are making huge sacrifices to guarantee your way of life and the safty and well being of millions of people around the world, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice, and then kids like you sit behind the protective wall of anonymity on your computer and flame the shit out of them for doing their job. Why dont you try saying the same thing to someone in the service, to their face... but wait, you probably dont have the balls.

It's their job to murder innocent people from the air like they were slaughtering live stalk? It's their job to laugh at the dead bodies of the men they just murdered and then further mutilate them by driving over their bodies?

You are brain washed the military does little to protect our freedom especially in Iraq. The nation of Iraq never posed a threat against the United States and certainly not my freedom, you who has affected my freedoms? The Bush administration the PATRIOT act Anit Drug Laws and many other things but I am certain that no Iraq has ever done anything to limit my freedom.

United States Soilders and Contractors in Iraq have murdered and raped civilians and though many have not they will defend the ones who do they are all worthless in my mind because there is no point to us being there.

You said it perfectly. When we think of soldiers we think of these big motherfuckers who arent scared of shit. Atleast this is what I think. What many of us over look is that half of these soldiers are scared shitless.They are not worried about whether there are civilians around, they are worried about the helicopter that they are and the people they have to protect in that helicopter, and other helicopters nearby.  So if they see some scrubs, with an rpg that can potentially take down helicopters, they are going to fire and protect there fellow soldiers. Lets put you in the situation. You are in a helicopter,and you see some people with an rpg, that same rpg can take out your helicopter, you also hear shots that are fired so these people are potentially hostile. Also, it looks like the man witht he rpg is squatting behind that wall for coverage, what would you do?

I know typing at a computer gives me every right and first hand experience to mitigate the loss of innocent lives lost in war. But it is ignorant of everyone to generalize anything they know nothing about. Be glad that right now we live at a time where we are not fighting for our survival. For example, what if China invaded the US, would you give a fuck about killing when your family and friend's lives are on the line? There is hardly a right answer, that is why there is war.

I'm saying that we are being hypocritical. We judge the acceptability of war based upon history. The very fact that we argue about this topic is constructive. Every new war (the U.S. is involved in) shows less and less brutality and destruction then the last, and more restraint from needless loss of innocent civilians. Accountability is no longer an afterthought.

Keep in mind Iraq is an extremely difficult situation, insurgents disguise themselves as civilians, use women and children as human buffers, and show very little moral or ethical restraint that the MAJORITY of American soldiers exhibit. When you are out there and one of your buddies is blown apart by an IED or beheaded your viewpoint would surely change. Same as if you are in a country and you have foreigners seemingly taking over your land and imposing strict policing. The bottom line is war is war and it sucks but it happens. Violence and retribution is part of human nature.

But why are we even there in the first place the reason the insurgents are fight us is because we are a foreign force occupying their country and killing civilians. Iraqis aren't killing our civilians and never have we are over there killing them it's only rational that they would try to repel a foreign invader from their country using any method they could.

We are there for natural resource purposes. Haven't you seen the movie "W"? It explains it pretty well. Even if you don't like the purpose, in the end it will keep the US better prepared, and in the end having a democracy in Iraq will save more lives and cause less suffering then what happened under Saddam. He killed over 500,000 people, the war in Iraq has caused around 100,000 deaths. Numbers, though unemotional do count. Also keep in mind that insurgents are blowing up their own people, and kill more than the U.S. ever does.

This thread shouldn't even exist. Iraq was an incredibly unnecessary war. And to those who will state that Saddam was a brutal dictator thus giving team american the right of way to police them are seriously misguided. There are so many more brutal and oppressive regimes in the world yet we happened to pick a country that just happened to have a resource value to it.

This is not a war of heroes. This is not a country full of people looking to invade America- but it may be after your troops leave.

You learn history because I have and have even taken courses in modern war in the middle east. Bill Clinton and Madilene Albright killed hundreds of thousands of iraqs through the sanctions against Iraq in the 1990's. Fuck we supported Saddam in the 80's and gave him money and weapons to attack our enemies in Iran. We agitated the Iran Iraq War which killed millions and supplied Saddam with weapons of mass destruction. If you think the US doesn't have blood on its hands you are an ignorant fool.

Watch that video from the perspective of a soldier, without the handy arrows telling you who is who and that his camera isn't an AK...

Would you be able to tell? Those telephoto lenses look awfully similar to RPG tubes as well. The reporters knowingly put themselves in a dangerous area, and while their deaths should not have happened, it is part of war. nothing to get too bent out of shape about. What about that guy peeking around the corner with what APPEARED to be an RPG. Was it an RPG? maybe. could have been a camera.

If you were in that helicopter, and saw what appeared to you AT THE TIME as an RPG and men with guns, would you just let it slide? sure thy could shoot us down and kill our men, but its cool, I dont wanna kill them, lets just play nice and hope they invite us over for dinner later...

YEA OK.

They were making sure they went home to see their wives and family, something you would do as well. YES they made a mistake, but that is just what happens. No reason to want to shoot the soldiers who were just trying to protect themselves and others. Grow up.

What if what if what if...... I would love to hear you try to use that defense in a criminal trial and hear the judge laugh at you. There are always what ifs. Listen to what the soldiers are saying in the helicopter they are begging to light these guys up. The gunner said "pick up a weapon that's all you got to do " about the wounded man because all he wanted to do was shoot him.

All of the soldiers are "brainwashed" into thinking that they are doing good, and every one has made up valid reasons as to why they are at war with the middle east. It's the same with every army, but yours is the worst because your army does so much stupid shit, whereas the UN army, although tiny and useless, put their lives to good use. Man what about the families of the innocents they murdered?

Soldiers go into combat to fight and possibly die, when civilians like journalist are in combat zones they are not there to do either. If a soldier dies it is said but it is expect of them to bravely give their lives but when an innocent civilian is killed it is fucked up because that person had done nothing to deserve to die.

We have done terrible things in this country, sure some soldiers have raped and murdered, but that is a microcosm of people in the service, those people should face the consequences, but I do not think the people in this video did anything wrong. The majority of the killings has been the result of our leaders, like you said. Which is exactly why we shouldn't persecute our soldiers for doing their jobs. ESPECIALLY in this case where it is anything but clear cut. Support the soldiers, but not the war.

I don't support the soldiers though, they wanted to kill these people even after everyone and been gunned down and there was only one survivor they still wanted to fire on him even though he posed no threat.

If soldiers were really so honorable why don't they desert or refuse to be deployed to Iraq? That would be the honorable thing to do.

We can argue for the next ten fucking years, but we don't have the convenience of hopping in a fucking time machine and change the past. So for everyone complaining about us being in Iraq, WTF are we supposed to do now? You seem to know all the answers, share them please to save the civilians! Do we leave and let a fledgling gov't get overrun by another regime, fall into sectarian violence, or do we stay and try to build a democracy, and maybe at least say we tried? You know Obama stated that he wanted to get the troops out, but there is intel the president is privy to that the general public is not. If the best decision was to tuck our tails between our legs and abandon ship, surely we would get the fuck out of there right now?!?!?!

It was their attitude that was the problem, they were looking for an excuse to kill, because they were bored. The shooter wasn't scared for his life, he was frustrated that he couldn't shoot right away. It was impossible to see whether or not the cameras were ak's or rpg's or maybe a coat they took off because it was hot, i dont know. They couldn't identify weapons, they shouldnt have shot.

The soldier probably doesnt give a shit, because when he goes home he will think that he did the right thing, because the iraqi's looked like they had ak47's.
