Park skiers/riders out of the park

Why can't a lot of them actually ski/ride on other parts of the mountain? I was skiing the Outback at Keystone yesterday and I saw a few guys with tall tees and over-sized gear who were skiing very defensively (hunched over, hands way forward, backseat, etc.). I try to ski park every once in a while, but personally I love working on my form in bumps, off-piste, groomers, carving, etc. You would think that you would learn to ski moderately decent on groomers, and then ski park.

Don't we all have skis on our feet? So, dosn't that make us an equal party. Who cares, if park-rats stray into the trees or what ever on a pow day. Isn't skiing about having fun.

I'm all for enjoying all parts of the mountain, but this is like asking "why can't big mountain skiers do FS swaps in the park?"
It's just another discipline, and I actually wish we had more grimy jib kids that would rather land on a concrete slab than ski an "epic line, bro." Skiing, with its race/Olympic/World Cup/jock background has such a complex about everyone being able to do "real skiing." But who really gives a shit? Pow skiing isn't in danger of going extinct due to park kids, so let everybody do what they enjoy. I'm sure them park kids will learn how to get all up in the front seat in pow when they get a chance/ their knees get old.

basically this, and i have only skiied through a park a couple times in my life. most people who hate against it cant do anything it seems. and whoever said moguls suck, i agree. too uniform in where you turn, no creativity in your line=no fun (imo of course).

bumps are so fun, getting a good line and just smashing through them is the best feeling ever, soooo smooth

there's a bunch of thought in picking your line and lots of adjustments you have to make within your line. i agree that perfectly crafted bumps with set lines get a little boring after the 10th lap

I would define them as random, natural features. Such as jumps and hips on the sides of runs.

Because most park skiers come from the east coast where skiing out of the bark is usually pretty dull.
It's also not exactly easy to carve/ski confidently on something that's not really soft when you have no edge underfoot from hitting rails all season long.
I don't think it's as big of a problem as it used to be, or even a problem at all, but i agree that there are some people who should learn how to actually ski if for no other reason than that it will make them better/more confident park skiers.

Well most of the East Coast park skiers I know are kickass at skiing all over the mountain. Powder not so much because it's just not there.

Got my appendix out last weekend and when i was skiing 6 days later everyone was passing me going down anything slightly bumpy and i know that i looked like a total tool that didn't know how to ski...

really though...i hate bumps.  i used to be good at them last year but for some reason they really hurt my knees now.  i did like 3 bump runs the whole season

Here is my theory. The people who get upset that people don't ski outside of the park, most likely suck in the park. They then get upset that they can barley get to the end of a flat bar so they channel this anger at people who are decent at park skiing, and flame them for their lack of style/technique on other aspects of skiing. Ironically most of these people who flame the "park rat" most likely not only suck at park, but also suck at their "real skiing".

It is funny that you guys think that pro "park rats" like Wallisch, Henrik, etc. are not good at real skiing. I am 100% sure these riders are better then anyone on this site (who is not a pro) at any form of skiing. However instead you guys compare this said group of "park rats" to some of the best big mountain skiers in the game like Tanner, Candie. Are you guys seriously that fucking retarded?

Thats like comparing Wayne Rooney (a soccer forward) to Van Der Sar (a soccer keeper) on the basis on their goal keeping abilities. Obviously the keeper is going to completely dominate the forward, even though its still soccer. These "park rats" simply decided to specialize in park skiing, while the other focused on other aspects of skiing. It doesn't mean Wallisch cant ski a technically line, just like how Wayne Rooney could prob save a few shots as a keeper. But when you compare them to the best of the best they will look minuscule in comparison. That goes for all levels of anything from novice to expert.

^Yeah, that's pretty much it. The fact of the matter is that most people are decently well rounded skiers. They're okay in the park, okay on groomers, okay in moguls, and okay in powder. But they aren't amazing at any one thing, so it's easy for them to get upset at skiers who get a lot of exposure for being good in one area but who are aren't as good anywhere else.

People tend to ski:
A. Where it is fun.
B. Where there is available terrain.
C. Where their friends want to ski.
D. Where their parents took them skiing when they were toddlers.

If somebody started skiing in their young teens by following around an older park skier who really inspired their park game, it's easy to see how they wouldn't venture off by themselves to work on their form in moguls. But don't get mad at those people who are good park skiers, instead be stoked on your own moguls skills (people DO notice who the local well rounded skiers are). And if you want to beat the park rats in the park, you'll just have to work at it.

There's no hate at all. I just expect people who are decent in the park to be decent on the rest of the groomed trails. Not powder skiing or moguls in particular. If you can ski the rest of the mountain then there should be no limits to your ability to ski park really well.

There are many different disciplines (I guess you would say) of skiing. Moguls are different than groomers. Groomers are different than powder. Whatever floats your boat.

I ski a mix of everything, some do as i, but some just ski park, and some just ski moguls, and then some just ski BC

WHY DO WE CARE, we are all progressing ourselves as skiers and progressing the sport. obviously we love this sport, or else we would own a new schoolers or pay a shit ton of money on some wood with metal around them and two little plastic things to stick our feet in.

I love just sking. and hoppefully you do to.

i wish terrain like was accessible to me so bad. Im pretty sure i can safely say that a good 1/2 ,probably more, of newschoolers could not ski that tho. I wouldnt hit that last cliff or one of the other ones, but just ripping through the trees looked so fun
