Storing without waxing

is it ok to store skis without waxing them prior to putting them away? never owned my own skis until this past season and was wondering if its cool if i dont get them waxed until next season.

You don't HAVE to do anything to them, putting storage wax (waxing without scraping) will help keep the base from drying out so that all you have to do is scrape them the first and then they'll be ready to go. If you want you can just throw them in your closet/basement/whatever and then wax them the beginning of next season, but it will probably need a few waxings before the bases are really saturated.

I would also lower the DIN to the very lowest it can possibly get on your bindings when you store them for a long time.

can i just slap on whatever wax i have left from the season or is their something special?

by lowering the DIN how do i go about that? i realize i dont wanna tighten them and i wont cause i planned on getting them reset anyways next season, but how do i lower the DIN?

I usually just use some all-pupose wax, but this is going to be the wax you ride on for the first day or so so whatever temp you think it'll be for opening day would be best, but you can use whatever wax you want and then if its the wrong temp just scrape and re-wax before skiing.

To set the DIN lower, look at your binding on the front of your toe piece is usually a large looking "screw", just use a phillips head screw driver and "unscrew" it until the line in the DIN window is at the bottom, then on the heel-piece, depending on the binding it'll either be on the very back or on the release "lever", it's usually near the DIN window on the heel, once you find it just like before "unscrew" it until the line gets to the bottom number on in the window.

Try to use a #3 pozi drive tip screw driver for adjusting the bindings, if not use a #3.

should i leave the heal piece snapped up or down after i lower the DIN?

The point of applying a summer coat is to keep your bases from drying out and getting fuzzy. P-Tex is porous, just like your face. What happens when your face dries out? It flakes, and cracks and bleeds; and you die. So to prevent the loss of moisture,and in turn your life, you use lotion or penguin oil. Liberally apply wax to the bases of your skis, and dont scrape.

Please don't kill your skis.
