my middle school had a tablesaw, a whole shop in fact

tablesaws aren't nearly as dangerous as a band saw or a jointer...fucking jointers are finger chopping machines, scary as fuck

There was another thread about this....I guess alotta kids have it at their schools....There were some stories where d-bags would set the shit off on purpose and it would cost thousands of dollars to repair it....So then only the responsible kid's who knew what they were doing (at zero risk of injury) were allowed to use it, totally defeating it's purpose   lulz

Truth, my buddy works at a cabinet shop, the little piece of aluminum or whatever that stops the blade is amazingly expensive. Yes, thousands of dollars. Worth it though if you've ever seen a tablesaw rip into someone like warm butter.

my dad could have made use of this when his hand got sucked into his table saw last winter. shit was gross. he started screaming and there was blood and skin everywhere.

I don't think it's possible to slow something to a stop that is spinning as fast as the blade on a saw without damaging it.

Actually things like shear collars have been used for a loooong time. I don't know how this works exactly but you can manufacture weak points in machines so they give at a cheap part rather than ruining the entire machine. We have systems like this on our printing and cutting presses that are almost a hundred years old.

I did a report on tis technology 3 years ago when I was a senior in highschool. Its ridiculously expensive but is worth it if it prevents some lawsuits. My solution to the problem was a band-saw safe glove and was more practical.

yeah my high school has one, reallllly loud when it goes off. And the aluminum brake cartridges are no where close to thousands. Theyre pretty cheap and worth it too to save your finger

I'm pretty sure that its $60 for a replacement aluminum stopper. There is an initial cost of the entire table saw which is expensive. The aluminum stopper only works with there systems which are overpriced......

My dad cut the tips of a couple fingers off about 5 years ago. He didn't cut the bone or anything though, so they grew back.

yeah we have one in our shop at school. not only is that safety feature good, but that saw cuts so nicely. no one has set it off yet, but i assure you that it is not thousands of dollars to replace the aluminum cartridge. as he said in the video, around $60. the blade has to be thrown out even if the teeth are still attached. you wouldnt want a loose one flying off and into your temple.

If the piece, the one that's destroyed, responsible for stopping the blade isn't actually that expensive then I'd assume the real cost is because they aren't manufacturing as many of these as your standard table saw so the price is going to end up being pretty high.
