We all obviously know that Windells is superior, but if you all were given the choice between 2 sessions at mhssc or 1 session at Windells, which would you take? And which place would you most likely learn more?
stay at the main campus. problem solved. it sounds like they were really getting you up because you had to go there to eat. staying in govy doesnt sound like much fun anyway and its more expensive
MHSSC! im going there this summer. its super sick i went 2 years ago. although windells obviously has a better facility, pick mhssc they have a really sick park. but i mean if it was between 2 weeks of windells and 2 weeks of mhssc, id pick windells for sure
there are two public lifts that operate in the summer. the lower one, magic mile, accesses mostly public park from the timberline lodge. the second one, palmer, starts at the top of the mile and goes up to the top. it accesses the big wide open snowfield and the private parks of all camps. you dont have to hike to the mhssc park. theres a public lift that goes to the top.
and to the guy above you: public should still be lappable through july. and if not it will go to hike only. mhssc's park will be lappable via palmer chair the whole time its in operation
yee, shits sick up here. our parks features, to our 3 jump line, to publics 7 jump line, 10 jumps. Snowed last week a bunch, was a little wet. This weeks ganna have a little showers as well. should be getting hot soon though.
this. maybe they dont market themselves much on here or for freeskiing in general because theyre still somewhat of a race-dominated camp...
but then of course we run into an issue here: if they start a marketing campaign and get to be as popular as windells, the price might go up and the vibe might be ruined. marketing is a double-edged sword
really? that kind of surprises me. we were waaayyyy outnumbered my session last year. park program is awesome, but i still think its more of a race camp. that is how they started...
wrong, vibe and effective coaching is definitely chosen over money, and always has. And people here do know about newschoolers...its just that the owner doesnt want or need all of that advertising and sponsorships to blow the camp up and turn it into windells...
People--There are d-bags at every camp who think they are better than everyone, I dont think thats exclusive to MHSSC.
Coaching---my mogul coaching/ racing coaching was amazing. The mogul coach there coached several olympic athletes including private coaching for Patrick Deneen (the 2009 freestlye world champion). this goes without saying that the other coaches are very well qualified also.
Staff- The staff (not coaches) are just normal people. Yeah they are kind of irresponsible but its not like the camp is looking for the best of the best camper staff (who, as far as I know, are not paid anyway).
Sorry to bump this thread but I didnt want to make a new one for my question....
So I'm turning 18 at the end of june right before I would potentially be going to Windells or MHSSC. Does that mean I couldnt go as a camper or dorm with friends who are 17 or younger? Would I get worse coaches or be with 50 men instead of kids my age? Also, would id be okay to go as a 17 year old because im litterally turning 18 right before camp?
I know WIndells has an adult program and im not sure about MHSSC but it would be a big help if you guys could give me some advice here/ information on what I should do
The age line at MHSSC of 18 doesnt matter. you could request to room with your buddies, whatever age they are. you will get the same freestyle coaches.
I went to mhssc last year for 2 weeks, its so much skiing that you can expect to learn so much. If you go early in the summer the private park is sick at mhssc and so is the public park. So much fun, sick vibes
Im a coach, counselor and office assistant ,and somewhat involved with the media at MHSSC.
I know the website is subpar, the camp is runned by an older man who isnt as focused on the quality of the website and advertising.
Obviously a website represents a camp, but in this case it doesnt even come close. our freestyle camp is one of the best ways to improve, I know i improved more in the summer at MHSSC than my whole seasons.
Food is pretty decent.
Mexican Monday
Pasta Tuesday
picnic barbecue Wednesday
Leftover Thursday
Asian food Friday
Pizza Saturday
Thanksgiving Dinner Sunday
You will fit right in doing 3's sliding rails and box's trying to get 270's off and on...you would most definitely be learning some tricks you did not expect to be going for.
Difference between staying in govy and at camp is..at camp you dont have to wake up as early as people in govy because campers in govy have to get up earlier to get on the bus to come have breakfast and get you skis.. If you stay in govy, you are at either a condo or appt complex withan employee and you get to kickit in govy more, which isnt that great. everyone goes to govy a few times after skiing a week.
PM me with any questions. P-fo is right, this is the best thread to read when deciding which camp to go to.
Windells in my opinion but I am biased. With everything in life, you will get our how much you put in, regardless of any camps you go to. The way I see it Paul McCartney said it best the love you take is equal to the love you make. Oh and for those that were at Windells last year "cougar claw".
I went to hood 2 years ago for racing and I only got to ski 2 days because of freak aguest storms. But hitting on girl at portlen mall was still fun.never been to wondrous but I loved hood
