MHSSC vs. Windells

We all obviously know that Windells is superior, but if you all were given the choice between 2 sessions at mhssc or 1 session at Windells, which would you take? And which place would you most likely learn more?

So, if I'm just starting out with freestyle would it be worth it for me to go? I can hit boxes but I can't really do anything else.

mhssc is perfect for you. our coaches will get you doin 360,s, grinding rails, and whatever else you want to get down all in one week. Windells environment is a little more intimidating and packed with kids trying to impress. and mhssc is half the price.

Ok, to all of you saying Windells is better becuase it has "pro coaching" your wrong.
Indeed it is cool to go ride with pro's for a week, but you wont learn near as much at Windells as you would at MHSSC, reason being MHSSC's coaches are there to help you learn, as to wear Windells coaches are there to learn new tricks them selfs. MHSSC coaches will watch what your doing and then help you out, as to where at windells its more of just lappin a park with a pro who isnt really watching you.

thanks for the info. unfortunately im probably going to have to go to a later session. im going with my friend and i think he only finishes working in august. i guess i could just bring some rock skis haha

ya you dont really have to the parks still sick in august, just no lapping. bring rocks skis and ur main pair.

That isn't true at all. I was at Windells last year and my coach never left us once. All you have to do is tell them what you want to learn and they"ll help you. There were kids in my group who lapped rails the whole week and of course they wont learn anything. If you dont have willingness to learn the coaches won't force you to. Plus Windells is going to have two private tow ropes an on hill bag jump and an on campus dryslope with 5 rails and a bag jump. So I think you saying that you wont learn nearly as much at Windells is a very false statement.

Seeing as you can spend twice as much time at MHSSC for the same price as Windells, I am leaning towards that, but I want to know, like how "sketchy" MHSSC is. The website looks really iffy and all the photos are weird.

i feel so old. the first summer i went to MHSSC there were 5 other kids in the "terrain park" program or whatever it's called. crazy to see how big it is now... with that being said, it was fucking RAD. i went back the next year and did a week of camp and a week of camper staff. that place was fun as shit, definitely recommend going!

MHSSC isn't sketchy. They provide a great product without all the hype. The "Pro Coach" myth is starting to be unearthed a little bit and people are realizing that the "pro coaches" at some camps aren't actually coaches...they are just there to ride and do photo shoots.

The coaches at MHSSC (and SASS) are also your counselors and night staff. They are there day in and day out participating in your activities both on and off the hill.

How many other campers can say they ACTUALLY skied with pros all day, everyday AND hung out with them in the evening?

In the past, we have heard campers mention that they were bummed that certain pros were at a camp, but they didn't get the chance to interact with the pro and actually hang out. I dubbed it the "Pro Coach Myth" just for lack of a better term.

It may just be hype and I should have mentioned that. But I can say that I know for a fact that at MHSSC and SASS, ALL the coaches live with and ride with the campers day in and day out. We have made a conscious decision to do only that and provide a more intimate experience for campers.

I can understand that. It's one thing to promote the kind of camper experience your camp focuses on providing, but it's another thing to disrecpect (whether intentionally or unintentionally) another camp while doing so. Can you really speak to the coaching experience at other camps simply based on what you have heard?

I think it also depends on how a pro skier is advertised by a camp. For example, all of our pros labeled as "coaches" have coaching groups and hang with their campers all day and also at night, our "Send It with..." pros ski and film in the mornings, but host trick tip sessions in the afternoons, and off hill activities in the evenings, and lastly we have a whole lot of guest "pros" who just come to ski and show campers some pro level park skiing to help get and keep campers stoked. So a camper could be bummed that he didn't get to spend the time he/she would have liked with a particular pro at a camp, but it does not always mean that skier pro was his/her coach.

My intentions here are not to start a battle with you guys, as you have an awesome program, but just to give you a little food for thought.

There was no disrespect meant, and I am super sorry that it was taken the way it was. The wording was off and I can see that now. I was supporting MHSSC and providing some insight into their program since it shares a lot of the same values as ours.

We (and MHSSC) may not have the hype that a lot of other camps provide, but for the select few who come down, we are able to provide some life changing experiences.

Regardless, any camp you go too will be the time of your life. I can honestly say I haven't met an owner or employee of another camp that I didn't like. None of us get into this for the money, because there isn't any. We get into it to meet other people who share the same desires as us. The time I miss skiing all winter by marketing the camp is made up by the 2 months I get to spend in Argentina chilling with the crew/family that comes down.

Hey SASS, no worries and like I say I wasn't looking to start a battle by any means. We love your guys program. It's such a unique experience in the mix of all us summer camps further north.

You get to ski during camp? I'm jealous!

haha hey thanks, i'm doing pretty good. Considering COC bike camp if i can scrape up some money! Looks like camp has gotten even better then when i was there, super sick as always.

HAHAHA. when I went there wasn't even a park program. 2 sessions in July 1998. I learned 720's in the public park. skied lots of bumps. good times.

MHSSC!! You get 2 weeks man, most kids get nothing. Mt.hood is sick to be at with out all the shit windells has to entertain little kids, you will be tired as fuck anyways after a day of skiing!

correct me if im wrong but i though someone said you had a choice to stay on the hill a bit longer if you wanted at mhssc

also does anyone know if i was supposed to get a paper that needs to get signed by a doctor?  it would seem weird that I wouldnt need one

been to both, and if i went again i would definatly go to MHSSC

the one thing about MHSSC that i didn't like was the bus schedule. because its a majority racers and there are afternoon activities you got up to the hill pretty early (an hour or 2 before the park would be open) and leave at around 130.

it was still super fun skiing around in the morning but waking up at 545 sucked. (I stayed in govy and we had to be on the bus to the camp for breakfast by 6)

Also i was always kinda bummed having to leave the mountain at 130.

On a normal attendance week, boarders and freestyle skiers leave about an hour after racers, and had the choice to leave with the racers to freeski before our terrain park opens.
