MHSSC vs. Windells

We all obviously know that Windells is superior, but if you all were given the choice between 2 sessions at mhssc or 1 session at Windells, which would you take? And which place would you most likely learn more?

i've thought about the same thing, and i'm going to go to windells this summer. just seems like if you're gonna do it, you gotta do it the best way. windells is sick all around. better park obviously, better/pro coaching, and all the stuff you get to do afterward like tramp foam pit, skateparks, etc. i feel like at MHSSC, you might get the wrong idea, and not realize the maximum fun you can have.

if you are out to learn as much as possible, the more time on snow the better.  2 sessions will be better than one regardless.  Because although windells is better, it isnt twice as good, wont teach you as much in one week as MHSSC will in two.  But it will be fun as shit regardless.

When i was reading this i was thinking windells vs/ high cascade for some reason and it had me really confused.

I would say windells though i went last summer and it was the best week ever:)

This guy knows whats up. We thought about doing 1 week sessions this year to bring the price down on our trips a little, even though for 14 days we are the cheapest out there (literally, look it up).

But when we sat down and looked at it, there wasn't enough time in 7 days on snow to make a solid progression. And we are on snow from 9am til 5pm...8 hours. Versus the 4 hours you will get on a glacier, it wasn't even close. So we kept it at 14 days on snow.

The longer you can spend at camp with the most snow time, regardless of which camp you go to, the more you will progress.

MHSSC definitely I went there for a week last year and had tons of fun.  MHSSC still has a gymnast tramp , paintball, white water rafting and a lot of fun activities off the hill.  This year i am going for 2 weeks over 1 week at windells.

MHSSC hands down.

Windell's sucks for a number of reasons.
A) More expensive
B) The people there are way less chill and there's a lot more "I'm so much better than you" that goes around
C) The coaches at MHSSC are more focused on teaching you stuff and helping you get better than training for the coming season or upcoming competitions
D) Way more liable to get your shit stolen. At MHSSC, I used to leave my GL2 lying around and nothing would happen, but from what my buddies from Windell's would tell me, if you so much as left your ipod out for a few minutes, it'd be gone.
E) The food is better and the lodging is cleaner and nicer
F) The vibe is just so good at MHSSC. It's smaller, so you meet people faster, and by the end of each session, it feels like you know almost everyone to some degree or another. Also, the people are just really nice and fun to be with and I cannot tell you how many people I've met at MHSSC that I'm still friends with today and still ride with when I visit different resorts.

I could go on and on, but why pay twice as much for a bunch of skate parks and foam pits, when you can actually get better coaching, better lodging, access to a decent private park and pubby, and hang with chiller people for half as much? Go ahead and flame, but just my two cents.

^Agreed.

Over anything else...The experience is what you make it.

If you are the kind of kid who needs to have big names skiing around you and a great park to have a great time, then you may want to go with Windells. However, most kids would have a better experience at MHSSC, which has a solid park, helpful coaches, and attracts a more down-to-earth group of kids...all at a more reasonable price.

Windells park looked nice but it looked very crowded which is not a problem at MHSSC.  The private park is pretty decent at MHSSC plus you have the timberline public park which are both high quality

I'd say MHSSC. The guys there are awesome, there's tons of people sessioning the lane, and everybody is learning stuff. Like, when I did dig to ride there this summer, the entire 4bi9 crew came and hit the jump line, and there were a bunch of randoms there, some pro snowboarders, and just a general super great vibe. On top of that they build some pretty cool features there, and have some pretty nice rails. You can learn a ton there in 2 sessions. Windells would be rad, but MHSSC seems like a more laid back, relaxed experience to me, while still learning a ton.

well 6 days at windells or 10 at MHSSC, i have been to both camps and here are the pro's and cons.
Coaching:
Windells your kind of on your own for learning things.
MHSSC coaches will help you alot and help you achieve your goals more.
Windells how ever does have Pro's though which is kinda of cool to be seeing them all around you.

Parks:
Windells park is of course bigger.
But MHSSC has basically everything windells has jump whise with the exception of a massive step over.
Windells has alot of rails basically all think able.
MHSSC also has alot of rails with exception of a flat down and a whale tale, But MHHSC will rebuild things in there park to cater to campers, like for example if u want an easy way to learn 360 switch ups they will set you up say a fatty up down box.
Windells has the air bag.
 
Pipes:
Windells does have there own pipe but you usual get up to the mountain late and the pipe is slush destroyed.
MHSSC use's the public pipe, which is equally good to windells if not better. How ever if you are really interested in riding pipe MHSSC ofers an early morning shuttle to the moutain so you can get on it befor it gets to slushy.
MHSSC also has its own quarter pipe.

Campus:
Windells has a full skate park and BMX course.
MHSSC has a mini pipe, and a big pipe along with skate rails.
Windells has 6-8 computers to use
MHSSC has 2 computers use.
Windells rooms have bunk beds and TV's.
MHSSC has Bunk beds.
Windells has shred sleds.
MHSSC has pogo sticks.
MHSSC has an adventure course.
Windells has tramps and foam pits.
MHSSC has tramps and throw pads.

Food:
Windells has good food.
MHSSC has great food.
Windells, when thirsty and its not breakast or dinner u have to but very over priced drinks.
MHSSC has a free fountain drink machine open 24/7
Windells, when hungry and its not one of the times to eat, they have vending machines and the snack bar which is also over priced.
MHSSC, there is a gas station really near that you can go to and get food for a normal price.

Other Activitys:
Both camps have rafting and paint balling
MHSSC has swimming at the lake and cliff diving.

Windells, has alot of im better than you.
MHSSC, everyone is there to improve and have a good time.
Windells, there will be kids there who are there basically for a day care.
MHSSC, meet alot of people.
Windells, meet a fair amount of people.
MHSSC, has some good looking racer girls
Windells, has some good looking freestyle girls.
Windells, something gets stolen your outa luck.
MHSSC, something gets stolen, which never happens, ur counselor will get it back some how.

Transportation:
Windells vans suck to have to sit in the back.
MHSSC has short buses so seating is alot easier.
Both blast pretty good music.

I've always had a fun time at MHSSC. I would do MHSSC over windells. Also at the end of each session at MHSSC there is a pretty bomb cookout at a park with frisbee, volleyball, horseshoes, baseball, etc.

as a poacher looking in...mhssc's park is just much more fun.  people in windells tend to be dicks, and it seems like the kids get very little guidence.  at MHSSC, the coaches are hiking with their kids constantly and give them pointers and tips every drop.  plus, getting to know the mhssc staff, they are super chill.  just dont piss malone off

This list of pros and cons is exact.

but overall 2 weeks at MHSSC does beat 1 week at windells if you are looking for improvment.

I am a counselor at MHSSC.
Our park last summer had a sick 3 jump line, which about all pros and freestyle skiers roaming the camp parks tended to favor our jumps.
Our Freestyle counselors teach sectioned groups, and are very personal and willing to help you learn as much as you can with video feedback throughout the week.
Catering the park to your needs, setting up features for most beneficial improvement.

And a few of their shots on jumps were from our park also.


We have a sick olympic style tramp, sunk in to the ground, with 6 blue gym mats surrounding it. And a brand new throw pad for practicing those dubs! Also you are able to work with your freestyle coach on the tramp to practice before you hit the park.

Other afternoon activities include rafting, cliff jumping, swimming, paintballing, skating in the pipes, windsailing, and more!

that service the mini pipe and small jump line because its impossible to do laps on the lift because windells is so far into the canyon.  you can do lift laps at mhssc pretty late.

just throwing this out there so you all know it...

when we (my mogul skiing team) were at MHSSC two summers ago for 2 sessions, heres what went down:

- a kid broke his femur the day we arrived on the trampoline, we saw the ambulance coming

- the unpaid camper staff kid who was in our room got 400$ and his ipod stolen and accused all of us (the Canadians did it!). we had to have all of our stuff searched through by high councillors

- later we found out it was the diggers who stole it, as well as other stuff, they then left the camp in their van during the night when we found out it was them, he didnt get any of his stuff back

- there was a guy there named rob or something who looked like he was 40 years old(around his actual age) and 10 years old at the same time, he was dubbed the manchild. manchild was seriously messed up. his trip at MHSSC ended when he started running around gov't camp naked screaming to jesus before he was tazed by two cops. he had pictures of everyone in the camp on his camera and lube in his suitcase

- there was another dude there who jsut didnt like the camp so he just kind of left one day, started walking away, don't know much about that story

- malone was there and would throw rocks at kids and stuff and push them over, it wasnt really cool at all

- they gave our coach a school bus to drive us around in (he didnt have his bus liscense at all haha) which promptly broke down in hood river

- we were frequently driven by a guy who didnt have his learners permit or anything, in a full school bus

- and on the last day, after the kid who broke his femur's dad had threatened to sue, the fire marshal and the a bunch of officials came to the camp to check it out. they deemed the skate ramps, ropes course and the entire building we were sleeping in not up to building code. as well none of them had permits, and the fire sprinklers were fake (weren't hooked up to anything)

- basically all of the councillors were almost always drunk or high, and made us run and do wall sits for misbehaving (but we definitely deserved it, we pulled enough shit)

- also the food was NOT good, i don't know what anyones saying, but it could be way better now


ALL THAT ASIDE:
- its still really cheap
- the skiings still awesome
- im sure it got waaay improved because it was almost forced to close after all that crap that summer, it should be way better now
- as sketchy and scary as it was, it was probably the best summer ski trip/ any summer trip ive ever been on. funniest time of my life


good luck with your choice, and if you do go to MHSSC, be careful of that tramp!!

trampoline incident is true...their tramping was rather sketchy and insurance didnt really know about it, but it has since been taken care of.  the rest of what you posted seems like a stretch, heresay, or just opinion.  I personally know the only 2 park diggers there (bigs and nate, if youre talking about park diggers who stole an ipod)  and they were not involved...they do have a makeshift dig to ride program there though...where any gypsy can come in and steal trinkets, cash and ipods, but that would have happened at windles too.

i went to MHSSC way back when i was a newb, i didnt learn shit there even tho i was trying to learn, the coaches were way more stoaked on the kids that didnt need any coaching and they would just watch them throw rodeos, i still had fun, i got 1s and 3s on lock but they were shitty and it was almost learning on my own. At windells last year i got WAYYY better the coaches really help, and everyone was really nice and chill, never got anything stolen all my shit was in my room ipod chargeing nothing was ever taken, food at windells is really good, there is way more at windells also a demo lab and indoor skateplace with a foampit, and much more, they are both really great but dude your makeing windells sound bad its really not.

In my opinion when we were in the mt hood summer ski lane looking at windells it was like looking from Mexico to America. Haha it was definately fun there but this year since I saved a bit more $ i'm hittin up windells.

The coaches at mhssc are the realest and the jumps and rails are real damn fun. Id rather go there. The only single thing that would turn me toward windells is a rope tow, but you can lap mhssc easier and hiking the jumps at the end of the day is the grandest of times.

heres my guide to choosing either:

if you skate/blade/bike, go to windells. you literally cannot go anywhere outside without seeing a skateboard feature, its heaven.


if you dont skate/blade/bike, go to MHSSC. the coaching is top notch and the cost is cheaper so you will be able to stay ALOT longer

If you want to be surrounded by groms and pro hoes, go to windells. Sure, they have the tacky shit, like free clothes and pros around you all the time. MHSSC is the best for sure. ive been going there for 3 years now, and its great. i can now go to 4 week sessions because of camp jobs such as camper staff. that means i pay a reasonable price for 2 weeks, then i ski almost free the next 2. (all you have to pay for is lift tickets.)The counselors are the chillest, and u get to know the coolest kids. The coaches are laid back, but fun to be around. I like skiing, but i also look for fun off of the hill. I like that it not based around abuncha huge pros, cuz i wouldnt be able to ski, when i would pass windells, pros would be putting on little shows for the campers and shit. It is a center for pro hoes. Thats my opinion.

ya, you're right about the gypsy diggers and all that, pretty much anyone could come in

all the manchild stuff happened though, and everything else too

but it seems like its since been fixed, so i would say op should go for it

the parks pretty dope, public parks good too

Baaang's right, There are only 2 official diggers at MHSSC, Nate and Bigs. Which both are very legit people and diggers.  Any other makeshift diggers who add on every few weeks and who are steeling are not welcome back.

Manchild and other incidents are completely not because of MHSSC. Manchild running the streets of govy naked is not a product of how MHSSC is runned.

And for the kid breaking his femur, the tramp area has been upgraded, with 6 gym pads and a throw pad.

And all other claimed "unsafe" features on campus have been improved and passed.

Ftk sounds like he's from stratton.
