Sure, we could have won in Vietnam. Do you understand how many lives that would have cost us? Also, how many more civilians we would have had to kill over there. Hopefully we can look back on the fear of communism and realize how many pointless lives and countless monies were spent over a fear of something we didn't understand.

Najibullah did all he could to hold onto Afghanistan but when 3 main countries are backing an organization against the government, it is pretty hard to keep it contained. You can point out that Pakistani influence and the armies of Massoud and Hekmatyar are probably the major reasons why Russia "lost" in Afghanistan.
