Moderator Elections?

So i was thinking today, how cool would it be to, every year, have a mod election? where people who want to be mods can make an ad or whatever they wanted... and if u like that person, u vote for them
it could cause a ton of NS drama or be real fun

but some restrictions could be put in place like:
-you have to have over (x) amount of posts in order to be running for election
-all "campaigning" would take place in the contests region under it's appropriate section

thoughts?

mods are picked for a reason, because they are active members who have been around a while, know the rules well, and will not abuse the power. if they started to get elected, it would just be a popularity contest and someone like eheath(not saying you wouldnt make a good mod evan) could just be elected and do a shitty job

Voting would not work, because the system is open to abuse.


Instead, members should nominate the members they think would be good, and the existing mods choose from the shortlist.

i dont think that moderator elections are needed.

1. the group of mods do a great job keeping the forums for the most part free of trolls

2. the mods have been around long enough to do there job correctly

3. finally newschoolers is not a democracy more of a communism

Agreed. Can you imagine what would happen if a bunch of n00bs thought it would be "funny" to make someone like OhMyBosh or some other retard a mod? I trust the current mods/admins a million times more than the NS community to choose new mods and make decisions in regards to the site.

i just honestly don't see why it's that big of a deal.
mods should pay more attention to the intentions of the words vs. the words themselves.

Ex:
"why are you out of the kitchen?" or "shut up you dumb n_gger _ag."

which one deserves a ban more?
