Ski edges

the edge on one of my skis is cracked in a few spots. the edge is peeling away from the base. i took the skis in and my edges are said to be very worn. not just on that spot but the middle of both skis from rails. ive had the skis two years. is it normal for the edge to be breaking like that?

the ski shop recomended replacing the edges for $50 an inch. looks like im getting new skis. or is it possible to bend the edge back to the base?

If you have been hitting rails for two years, then yes, its expected.

Get yourself a box cutter, some sandpaper and 5 minute epoxy. Carve out as much loose stuff from the edge and the inset in the ski where its supposed to sit with the box cutter, just the loose stuff. Wrap the sandpaper around the blade and carefully sand all the surfaces you can, on the edge and in the place where it once was in the ski. Mix some epoxy up, apply to the edge and in the hole, push the two back together. Epoxy doesnt bond to HDPE plastic, so if you have any lying around, put that over the edge and clamp it so the edge is really pushed in there (plastic will stop the epoxy from bonding to the c-clamp, thats no fun). After its all set and cured, sand away the leftover epoxy and file over the joint so nothing is there to catch and rip the edge out again.

You might be able to bend them back into place with the help of epoxy maybe and make them last til the end of the season but I would just get new skis.

It happens, rails wear out edges pretty quickly, in fact the fact that you got 2 years on them is pretty sweet, I ski 90% rail and I usually only get half a season to 3/4 of a season on my park skis.

midwest skiing is expensive.

im going to try to bend and epoxy. i need a 3rd year so i can save up for a new pair.

50 dollars an inch sounds pretty steep i recommend just buying new skis
