Brass inserts rip-out (pics included)

ok guys, i'm leaving for my last week on real snow, this week friday....

today i was checking my skis, waxing them, adjusting my din a little, when i noticed that when my boot was clicked in, i could wiggle the heelpiece quite a bit, i could fit my fingertips underneath it!!!

so i just guessed it was a screw that was loose (i had brass inserts)

so i tried to adjust it, screwed it a little tighter, but i couldn't feel any friction at all....

at this point i allready smelled the shit that was hanging over my head...

long story short, i took my heelpiece off, only to see that 2 out of 4 inserts had come out....

now i'm left with 2 big ass holes in my ski...

gonna bring em to another shop tomorrow and kick my old shoptech in the nuts....

What would you guys recommend i do if i tried to fix it myself?

i'd clean out the hole, then glue the inserts back in with steel-wool reinforced epoxy...

^^think this is a good way to do it ?

hmm....so u ripped the heli-coils out of the ski? thats not good...

is say ur haggard bro. only thing i can think off the top of my head it re-mount to a different spot on the ski, or get a new binding with hole patterns far enough away from the existing ones (im not to sure this is possible though)

this is a weird one!!

Those holes don't look big enough to be a 5/16" brass inserts.  Are you sure they're not heli-coils cause then you could have them drilled and use brass screw-in inserts instead of push-ins, and that would fix your mount issue.

just took a quick look at them; the inserts are brass and of the push-in type.
outside diameter = +-9mm (quick measurement)
so they would most likely be 5/16 ...

^^

i'm royaly fucked by my retarded shoptech who managed to fuck up twice in just a year.....

Damn!  However. it looks like you have the heel adjusted forward, measure the amount you have left of rearward travel, if you have enough, you could have the heel moved forward and end up with the same  mount position since your not moving the toe.

this is a good first step. ive done it with a look px12 heel when my helicoils ripped out, but i think look heels have more adjustment travel than marker heels so it might be close.

nah, we considered that the first time, but its just a couple of mm short...

:(

i'm screwed....
praying for godlike epoxy fix, cuz i dont see anything else being the solution...

same thing happened to me a couple of times.  the best thing i could tell you would to be get new bindings, because imo the marker frees you have totally suck (i broke 2 pairs of them so fast...). Besides that i would try and mount them in a different place over just putting more inserts in because when you put the inserts in again, more than likely it will happen again.

yeah, thats the last resort, but i already have 2 centered parkskis, this was my powder charging plank....

i guess im investing in some EP,pros next year, to complete my quiver.....

just talked to the new shoptech (a good friend of mine)
and they think thay can epoxy the inserts back in, with prety good chances of succes....

so maybe i'm not screwed as much as i initially tought....

thx for the support bro, but i think i'm gonna give it one last try, cause i genuinely think its the fault of my incapable old shoptech....

if it rips out again, i haven't lost a thing
(except maybe some gnarly crash.... but hey! its beoming summer anyway...)

so if that would happen again, i'll just center mount them and make em into fat groomer-planks.....

Completely fill hole with urethane. tap excess so its flush. Redrill hole into the urethane with bit that is one size down from whatever diameter helicoil you have. bit must be super sharp and fresh and do it slow. drill must be perfectly vertical. then take brass helicoil and screw it in slowly, then unscrew it. make some epoxy with steelwool, put some in the hole then screw helicoil back in. then put alittle more epoxy in, then put binderrr back on. you must do this very fast depending on what epoxy you use. so only do one ski at a time.

easy fix and it works well.

shoptech is currently trying to fix it; it'll be ok, but for how long?.....

gonna take my slalom skis as backup (1 week ski-instructing) so not a bad backup.... :)

last friday, 3hours before my departure, i go to the shop, only to find out they haven't done SHIT !

First i verbally "crapped" all over the place, then took 4 brass inserts + mounting tool
then went to the DIY store, got some kickass epoxy
went home drilled out the holes conical with my dremel-tool
then i filled em up with epoxy mixed with steel wool; pushed the inserts in; packed my skis (without binding)
and left for italy.

arrived in italy (14h later), i was sure the epoxy hardened out enough, so i screwed my bindings back in, and skied on them for 7 days; took some park jumps and dropped some 15ft cliffs, skied super heavy melting snow, carved down on ice, shredded some rails and skied through a pond.

7 days later my binding held up like no other!

booyakasha, if you want something done correctly, do it yourself !

sparknotes; shop couldn't fix my binding in 1 week time,
i fixed it in under 30min. ....
