not to mention youre gonna have to mow the greens a fucking lot.... why not just go to your local golf course? mine has a free chipping and putting green. warmup there when youre waiting to tee off
I had two homemade golf holes in my backyard as a kid. We never had true greens because, just as everyone said, its fuckin expensive. You can't just cut your normal grass really short.
My buddy has a turf putting green in his backyard
no maintenance and faces the elements very well
the only downside is that it's not 100% true to grass
yeah its insane to try to make a true green like that. what would be sick though would be to make a bunker, a fairwayish thing, some regular long grass for rough, and a turf green or just some very very short cut grass. that way you could practice approach, bunker shots, chipping etc... and it wouldnt be that expensive.
the amount of money/maintenance you would spend on it, youd be much better off to get a membership to a course or range. i worked grounds at a course for two years, and the mowers we use specifically for greens cost 6000. haha, so just invest that time and money in your swing or something.
haha yeah i know, i could probably make about a 70 yard par 3 in my yard or so, i figured someone on this site has a few acres of open land though. even if you only made it like the green/target, a bunker and some rough and fairway that would be sick to practice chipping and shit.
i looked into it, and if you have a decent ammount of money, and a little know how, along with a desire to get dirty. you could make a really sick setup.
lets put it this way, if my dad gave me a blank check and told me to go wild landscaping ide turn the backyard into an outdoor palace.
