And I worked at a coroner office for a summer... I have seen what guns can do to a human skull and body. I still own guns cause I like owning guns that hold a place in history like a Mauser Kar98, Mosin Nagant, 1911 Springfield (cheaper version of the 1911 Colt), next on my list is a Benelli 20 gauge or a Winchester Model 12 20 gauge.

I'm speaking more of a war standpoint, where people you know and love get their hands, legs, and faces blown off.

Since you own guns for mere asthetical pourposes, lets delvee deeper, how does this gun make you feel? Manly? Secure? Not gay? Is that worth the pain and suffering it can bring upon humanity. I'm glad your personal convidence trumps the saftey of other people.

Also, if you hunted or lived somewhere rough, I honestly wouldn't care. But being that you own only to fill the hole inside you, I get annoyed.

why the 20 gauge? i have the newer version on the winchester model 12, now the 1300 in the 12 gauge, and its still the most reliable gun ever. my dad has the model 12 from a while ago, old but still works just like it used to

My dad has WAY more 20 gauge ammo sitting around our house right now. Biggest reason considering the hike up in the price of ammo.

I don't own to feel manly, secure, or not gay. I own because my dad owns, my grandfather owned, and his grandfather owned. I live in a portion of my area that is considered the country so we can go target shooting. Plus we have a lot of coyotes that roam around, woodpeckers that drill into our house, and once in awhile a cougar and there are several family pets around, families that make their living with chickens and cows, so in essence it is used to chase them off. Coyotes we chase away, woodpeckers we kill, and the one cougar we had we scared away but another was spotted recently.

Water fowl hunting I am not a huge fan of... get wet and then you get fucking cold. Prefer deer hunting where at least to a point you can control how wet you get.

its true, it is super fuckin cold, especially after the first of the year, but if your smart and know what your doing, you shouldnt get wet. 5mm neoprene chest waders and a waterfowl coat from cabela's does the job quite well. i just love it because its like a tradtion with me and my dad and because its so damn fun calling them in and having them drop right in your lap, and diver ducks are just such a rush when your poppin shots off at them flying on the water

i second this, see the thing is, gun control laws only work on those that purchase and own guns leagally, which 90% of the time are the people who don't cause problems with them. guns causing violence and problems (aka gang violence, etc) are almost always obtained illegally, weather stolen or purchased from an illegal distriputor (black market). another restriction on guns isn't going to stop someone who already disregards the law isn't going to do anything but restrict those who already follow the laws, point being, we need to crack down on the illegal stuff before limiting the ones who already follow the law

I knew I would get a lot of responses like this... The kid is not a moron, on a long enough time line, no matter how careful you are with something as dangerous as a gun you are bound to have an accident. Just telling a cautionary tale, should have know better, after all the internet is full of people who never make mistakes, ever, and are super intelligent. Just be careful with your guns tough guys.

I've seen people die on skis, does that mean we should get rid of them to stop pain and suffering upon humanity? Go smoke another bowl and toss a frisbee, dumbass.

The majority of gun owners own them for sport (i.e. taget shooting dickmouth). Its a ton of fun to shoot all types of guns, you just probably haven't even tried it.

It's not about feeling macho, it's just fun...like skiing or any semi-dangerous activity. It is a rush, like cliff jumping.

It isnt like we go out and talk about "how bad that would fuck someone up dood!" its about trying to be accurate and just enjoying using a powerful tool.

You are just beyond ignorant, don't make assumptions and judgements about things you have no experience with. You are like the jackass who goes to a golf course and makes fun of it the whole time because he doesn't understand it.

He is cleaning a loaded gun.......

First thing anyone is taught about gun maintenance is check to see if it is loaded before fooling around with it for cleaning. When I go to clean my 1911 I eject the magazine and pull back the slide to check and pull it back multiple times. My dad's pump I will slide the pump back and forth multiple times.

anytime you EVER handle a gun, check the chamber and the mag. i dont care if it just came out of the box from the distributor. ALWAYS check.

Oh I know.

First thing my dad told me to do is crank on the lever, bolt, pump, flip open the cylinder and slide the slide around and eject the magazine before cleaning or just even taking it out of where you store it.

for sure, ive heard stories about people opening guns that were shipped from gunshop to gunshop and when they check the chamber the gun is locked and cocked with a full mag....

Guns are just a tool. Yes they are weapons, they are used to kill. However they are still just tools. It takes a killer to kill. A chearleader with an AK is a lot less dangerous then a killer with a tweezer.

and guns are fun to shoot. Its also a lot harder then most people shoot. To be able to consistently put rounds into your target from extended distances is alot harder to do then most people would have you believe.

Skis were never made as a tool to kill. Face it, guns were not made for target practice, they were made to kill things, end of story.

The reason I hate guns so much is because I speak from the experience of war. I come from Sarajevo, Bosnia, if you don't know what happened there, do a Google search. Believe me, I know the awful things that can come from war and guns. I am not some "jackass who goes to a golf course," I have fired AK47s and other guns before, so it's not because I didn't experience the "fun." Just in my mind, until the day I die there will always be a connection with guns and the deaths of my friends and family.

Guns are not fucking fun dude, they will never be, they only make us feel like are dicks are bigger than they are by "using a powerful too."

I can see and understand where your bias comes from but you have to at least see it a little for yourself?? There were nations torn apart by war and atrocities long before there were guns. I'm fairly certain evil and cowardly men are what you should be pissed at, guns just made their job less difficult.

Just like it makes it less difficult for me to shoot a deer. Sure I could use a wooden longbow and take a deer, hell some people might respect me more for it, but that wooden bow is just a step above a spear which is just a step above a club. We have been fine tuning our tools and weapons for thousands of years.

Would you hate loggers if crazed axmen had stormed a village and hacked up your friends?? Some people use weapons for evil and some use them with the responsiblity that they deserve.

Your obsession with ridiculing someone's manhood is more than a little disturbing.



On a seperate note, yes accidents do happen, but there is no excuse for a marine cleaning a gun with a round in the chamber. A properly trained 12 year old can safely inspect a weapon for ammo. A trained military person that should be able to dismantle and reassemble their firearm has no excuse for leaving a round in while cleaning, I'm gonna go above that and bet he was drinking.

Checking for ammo and muzzle control are two exercises that should be used when anyone is handling any firearm. I don't care if you checked for ammo ten times, if you let that barrel sweep my head I'm gonna get pissed.

For the record I only own hunting guns and one tactical shotgun that was inherited from my brother who was a bit of a survival nut.

You pointed out the exact reason I hate guns so much as apposed to other weapons. Guns are simple, all you have to do is point, squeeze, and you take a life away. Once you start simplifying the tools to kill people to the point where all you have to do is hold a small gun and pull the trigger, you make murder and other atrocities easier.

Just a side note, I am not against guns totally. I just don't see any reason you should own guns that you don't use or just have for show, they should all be for hunting, and you should always have a hunting permit to go along with those guns, but owning automatic guns and guns that fire shells the size of cannons is not for sport. Even if you live in a rough neighborhood, I can see why having a gun is a good idea, but being in the boonies and living in paranoia doesn't qualify as that either.

The only reason I link guns with manhood is because they are a pretty well known phallic symbol. Take a look at war novels like Jarhead and Generation Kill, both look at the way soldiers thirst for action and killing through guns. The was they express their testosterone through the firing of weapons. Have you seen the movie version of Jarhead? The end was basically a fucking ejaculation scene with M16s. A good portion of the people who love guns in America do it to get a real manly feeling out of using them, feeling it discharge like the big dick they don't have. It's not a crazy psychological assumption I believe, its a point that has been pretty well covered in many works of literature and film.

I agree with some of your points for sure. I wouldn't say guns are simple, but you're right they do make it easier to injure or kill someone. I'd even say they detach the attacker from the act as you don't actually have to beat the life from someone by hand or strangle their last breath from them. Still though it takes the want to kill someone before you get it done with a gun, someone who is determined will hurt you with or without a gun.

Guns hold value like any other artisan crafted product. Many people choose to invest in different things, like art or cars or even guns. Maybe the investor just likes the history of certain guns and never even fires them. He should still be allowed to collect and display them like any other art form.


I've never seen of those movies or read those books but I do understand your point here somewhat. Literature and film though often grossly over fanasize situations to make a point. I'd wager that most of the soldiers serving right now would not equate firing a weapon with blowing a load. It's just an adrenaline dump, I see no need to make it phallic or even associate it with sex. I could just as easily say that firing my shotgun makes me feel like I'm twisting the throttle on my motorcycle. Go ahead tell me that's phallic as well.

WHO IN GODS NAME CLEARS A LOADED FIREARM. Clearing a cocked and locked 9mm would be nearly impossible considering you have to disemble it to do so and a live round would block the barrel and prevent the slide from being removed to access any moving parts. Sounds like a poor excuse an irresponsible situation. I'm supprised a man with that much training would be so fucking careless.
