Im fucked, you guys. It always messed with me before and i just hadnt thought about it in a while...... but then... I was cleaning my roon and i caught a glimpse of jon grabbing critical in an old red camo oakly one peice. I snatched up the photo only to realize it was a cover shot on FREEZE magazine, the single best thing that has ever happened to freeskiing.
It was the october 2004 issue. released one year after my switch from racing towards the true calling of ripping the mountains freely. 03-04 was a revolutionary year for skiing as we saw TJ schillers breakout performance at the US open slopestyle at vail. He won, at like 17, just out of highschool and noone knew shit about him. people were finaly getting used to the new technologies pushing freeskiing forward (twin tips) and were starting to progress at unbeleivable levels. This crazy progression was covered thouroughly by freeze, providing the opinions of many different riders and photogs on where shit should be going. The way FREEZE took you to the core of freeskiing is somthing i have found unmatched in sports media throughout the world and is rivaled only by the likes of ROCK and ICE- the only indepentently owned climbing mag left. Freeskiier makes it obvious that they dont know whats going on, with FREEZE it was like we were all part of a movement, now its just ads and crap. i wanna read articles written by Pollard about the future of skiing switch and see pictures of kids like Mcrae Williams who are actually taking the ski world by storm rather than just some punk on solomans.
Anyway FREEZE was way too sick and im fucked up about it. If you have any access to some back-issues of FREEZE I would highly suggest reading them and getting a shock back to the true core of the freeskiing movement. PEACE OUT
