ha unfortunately houston is nothing like that at all. i live in Austin now which is the only livable part of Texas. i can't really give you any ideas about houston though. i hear it sucks even from red blooded texans. my suggestion would be to try to get to austin if you can, it's maybe 3hrs away.
but despite all the stereotypes from people who have never been here, Texans are good people for the most part. It's refreshing how nice and friendly everyone is compared to my home state, Colorado. You'll see a lot of fat people, but also a lot of very attractive women. And they're approachable too! Houston has a lot of good, authentic ethnic food, but you shouldn't go without the BBQ especially and also Tex-Mex.
